Fantasy Football: Texans vs. Browns Preview

Week two is here and time for a Texans vs. Browns Preview has arrived!

The 2021/2022 NFL Season schedule has lined up another exciting match up and for Fantasy Football league managers, its time think about who to start, who to avoid and to decide who’s worth keeping an eye on! Lets get this Texans vs. Browns Preview underway.

Texans vs. Browns Preview – Who Will Win?

Did you know that over the past 18+ years, Houston Texans hold the lead in this series 7-4 when facing the Cleveland Browns? In fact, it was since 2007 that the Browns didn’t win a game against the Texans up until last year!

Much like last year, the Browns as a team have changed and in quite a positive manner. For starters, their QB Baker Mayfield continues to develop and improve year-after-year as him and manager Kevin Stefanski deepen their football relationship. The Browns have also gotten major reinforcements to their offensive line including the addition of Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt to their running corp.

Meanwhile, the Texans are in a rebuild process this year as Nick Caseiro assumes the new management role in the team. While the Texans managed to edge out the Jaguars last week. Personally, I don’t see that being the case against a very good Browns defense. Expect to see Myles Garrett be all over Tyrod Taylor for sacks and expect the Browns CB combination to shutdown the long ball.

I see the Browns winning this one, 24-10 is my score prediction.

So, Who Are Must Start Players In This Matchup?

Nick Chubb – RB Cleveland Browns.

Chubb was a stud against a decent Chiefs defense especially in the running game! If you drafted Chubb high this year, you saw exactly why you did it in week one after a performance of 83 yards and two TDs.

Imagine now what he will do against a Texans defense that is atrocious at best against the running game! Sure, it could very well be that Baker may ball out and throw the ball often to people like the Juice Jarvis Landry and occasionally to Donovan Peoples-Jones. However, do not expect the Browns to go quiet at the running game especially when Chubb can be trusted as he has proven this far.

My prediction for Chubb is a productive afternoon where he could run about 90-100 yards and have a TD! In PPR formats, this is about a 15-20 point weekend for Nick. Start him!

Who To Avoid At All Costs in This Texans vs. Browns Game?

Phillip Lindsay – RB Houston Texans

So let’s take a look from another angle at this Texans vs. Browns Preview, shall we?

When I think of a player to avoid in this matchup, unfortunately the first one to mind is Phil Lindsay. While he was able to get some runs going against a lack-luster Jacksonville defense, it may not be the case here against the Browns.

In fact, majority of the running game was done by Mark Ingram and David Johnson. If there is any running to be done by the Texans, Ingram and Johnson are first options. Unfortunately, unless Lindsay can be involved in check-down plays, I don’t expect much out of him in this tough matchup.

Who To Keep an Eye On?

David Njoku – Cleveland Browns Tight End

Njoku absolutely balled out against Kansas City last week and if Baker is going to be throwing the ball like he did last week, you might want to keep an eye out for Njoku.

David Njoku stole the show tight end wise for Aaron Hooper last week and could be expected to do so this week as well. Njoku was able to pull 3/5 targets last week for a team-high 76 yards in receiving last week. In addition to that, the Texans struggle badly to shut down the tight end game and this could be another big one for Njoku production wise.

If you have him on your bench, that’s fine and all but be prepared to start using him as a flex option come week 3 when the Browns against a bad Chicago defense especially against tight ends!

With that said, I expect Njoku to have another 3 receptions, possibly 50-60 yards afternoon for another 10-12 points in most PPR fantasy leagues.
