Fantasy Football: QB’s to Claim In Waivers!

It has been a very interesting offseason and preseason for Football fans! Now that most fans prepare to draft their fantasy teams, let’s have a look at some QB’s to claim in waivers if available.

Let’s take a look!

Must-Claim QB’s If Available!

Trevor Lawrence – Jacksonville Jaguars.

Trevor lands on this list and for many could be a shocker. However, in most Fantasy football leagues where there’s about 10-12 people participating, Lawrence easily makes the waiver list.

Most people focus on taking QB’s the likes of Tom Brady, Russell Wilson, Aaron Rodgers and some others. However, with Lawrence set to be the QB1 for the Jaguars and Jacksonville finally having a QB, it would not be a bad idea to pick his talents off of waivers. The Jaguars have a good receiving core in DJ Chark, Lavishka Shenault and veteran Phillip Dorsett. Now with a QB that can throw, he wouldn’t be a bad option at all from the bench if needed.

Sam Darnold – Carolina Panthers.

At 24 years old, Darnold offers a lot of youth and already experience in the Quarterback position for this Panthers team. During his last preseason game which was against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Darnold went 19 for 25 for 162 yards. Sam had no interceptions and scored two TD’s in that preseason game.

While Darnold struggled earlier on that game, the youngster managed to bounce back and have a great productive night against arguably one of the best defensive teams currently in the East. For Darnold, having receiving options like Curtis Samuel and DJ Moore, gives Darnold the opportunity to be more of a throwing QB this year than before. He is projected to throw for more yardage this year and have almost double the TD production, if he slips to the Waivers, that is one QB to claim in waivers list especially if injuries expected in your QB1/QB2 options in Fantasy Football.

Some Sneaky Good QB Options in Waivers!

Teddy Bridgewater – Denver Broncos.

Yes, we know Teddy was traded after 1-year in Carolina were he was a full-time starter. Listen, that was his first time doing so since 2015 and expectations were met in my opinion. However, I can’t blame Carolina for going another route with Darnold.

Let’s not forget though, he is going to be QB1 for the Broncos come week 1 as he showed up big time in training camp and Drew Lock’s time could be in danger at the Mile-high club. Teddy, at 28 has shown to be serviceable and has a decent completion rate (69% completion). Bridgewater will be fun to watch connecting with Courtland Sutton and even Eric Saubert! Perhaps, not a bad value to pick up at Waivers especially if you need a backup QB.

Daniel Jones – New York Giants.

Entering his third season, at 24 years old, Jones will have a lot to unload this season.

While Jones has struggled in his previous seasons with his interceptions and YPA, this year the Giants are a complete different team and one that will motivate the young man to elevate his game to the next level. Jones this year is accompanied offensively by the likes of Kenny Golladay, Kyle Rudolph, Evan Ingram, Sterling Shepard, a healthy Saquon Barkley and a Darius Slayton!

Just in his previous preseason game against the Patriots, Jones completed 17 of 22 passes for 135 yards, a TD and a INT. Keep in mind, he went up against a VERY good Patriots defense and even so, it turned out to be a nice high scoring game 22-20 for the Patriots. If you want a QB that can run the ball, score TD’s when needed to scramble the pocket, Daniel Jones is your guy. I know I will be keeping an eye on how he performs, personally.

Last But Not Least!

Cam Newton – New England Patriots.

Bill Belichick has yet to determine a QB1 for the Patriots in what has been a very close QB race between him and Mac Jones.

However, Cam this year is absolutely different from last year and looks repurposed/re-energized. During this years training camp, Cam has shown a different version from last year. Opening up his throws a lot more, quicker in the pocket and releasing the ball faster. While last year, Cam didn’t have much of a passing production to work with, this year he does. Cam finished last year top 3-QB in rush attempts, yards and TD’s last season. Now that this year he has a passing core he can rely, Cam will be as serviceable as possible as a QB2 option in your fantasy leagues! Would not be a bad idea to take a flier on him, however I would advise to do so earlier especially in those week 3-7 byes.
