Fantasy Football Preview: Cleveland Browns vs Kansas City Chiefs

Exciting times are upon us all as the NFL season is about to kick off. That also means fantasy football is also about to kick off. Week 1 presents multiple fantastic fantasy football matchups. Today, lets take a closer look at the Cleveland Browns and Kansas City Chiefs matchup. Who should you play, and avoid? Let’s dive into this fantasy football preview: Cleveland Browns vs Kansas City Chiefs.

Must play:

Patrick Mahomes

This is an obvious choice. In the offseason, Kansas City bolstered this offensive line with adding Joe Thuney from the New England Patriots and Orlando Brown from the Baltimore Ravens. Mahomes will be slinging the ball to Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce who will be abusing the young Cleveland secondary. Plus, Mahomes can make plays with his legs. Fantasy owners who drafted Mahomes will be grinning ear to ear weekly this season.

Prediction: 28/33, 285 passing yards, 3 touchdowns

Nick Chubb

Browns sign star running back Nick Chubb to three-year extension

The heart and soul of the Cleveland offense. It’s not easy to stop Chubb and Kansas City will continue that trend. With a somewhat average defense outside of Chris Jones expect Chubb to be running all over this Kansas City defense. Chubb runs downhill and with power which makes it nearly impossible to stop him.

Prediction: 20 rushes, 150 rushing yards, 2 touchdowns, 60 receiving yards

Also start:

Jarvis Landry

Yes, Odell Beckham Jr is back. But, the chemistry that was built between Landry and quarterback Baker Mayfield played a huge role into the success of the Browns season last year. Mayfield will be looking for Landry early and all night long. Landry should be in the flex position on your fantasy roster.

Travis Kelce

The passing attack will be alive and well from Kansas City. Kelce will be living in the middle of the field and will take advantage of the young Browns secondary. Yes, the Browns have a solid defense, but there aren’t many defenses that can stop Kelce. After all, Kelce excels at being a receiving tight end and will prove why he is the best tight end in the NFL.

Toss up:

Austin Hooper

This is someone who could be a starting tight end for this weekend. Austin Hooper looks to be more involved in the Browns offensive game plan. So why is he a toss up? With Odell Beckham Jr, Jarvis Landry, Kareem Hunt and Nick Chubb being on the field, is there room for a fifth target? If so, Hooper is the next guy up on the list of targets for Baker Mayfield. Hooper will be involved this weekend that’s for sure.

Avoid:

Chiefs defense/special teams

It is not worth playing the Chiefs defense this weekend. Cleveland has too many weapons for this average defense to handle. Fantasy owners should spare themselves the headache and send them to the bench for the weekend. Nick Chubb will have his way with the defense on Sunday.

One last prediction:

Odell Beckham Jr

Odell is back after tearing his ACL last season. How will he look? The Chiefs will mainly focus on him out of the two Cleveland wide receivers. But, that doesn’t mean Beckham isn’t a factor.

Prediction: 7 catches, 85 receiving yards
