End of Bet: Why is Liverpool A Good Team – Part 2

As you all know by now, I lost a bet against my Yellow Card Podcast co-host, Chris Jones last week. The bet was simply I would need to write 2 articles explaining why Liverpool is good, but if he lost, he would have to do the same but this time covering Manchester United.

I delivered my first part of the bet earlier this week  and now I am here to deliver part two. So, besides the reasons aforementioned, why is Liverpool a good team? Allow me to give you two additional reasons.

Liverpool Club Legends.

Steve Gerrard

Steven Gerrard slip: Liverpool captain's unfortunate mistake, reaction & chant | Goal.com

If you know English Premier League soccer and know Liverpool, this should be the very first name you think of. Steve Gerrard came to light as he started his career in 1998 with the club that he would later retire from in 2015 prior to making a move to LA Galaxy in that same year.

In his time with Liverpool, Gerrard had 504 appearances and 120 goals! He was the club’s captain for a majority of his tenure with the team and in that time, conquered many titles with the team. Aside of having been a Liverpool player, I would say that as an all-time English player, Gerrard is easily in my top 10, no question!

Bill Shankly

One of the most beloved managers in the history of English soccer, Bill Shankly! If you are a Liverpool fan and don’t know Shankly, honestly shame on you! Bill Shankly joined Liverpool after a 3-year spell at Huddersfield Town in 1959 that would bring him to Liverpool and his last ever club management job until 1974.

Shankly is known for having been the reason behind the “You Never Walk Alone” chant embraced by fans but also for the glorious days he brought to the organization.

Ownership Ties To Boston!

“Alexa, who owns Liverpool FC”

I’m sure that at this time that was almost the exact thought you had if you aren’t a soccer follower. Liverpool is owned by Fenway Sports Group. Sounds familiar? Well, it should! Liverpool is owned by no other than Red Sox owner, John W. Henry.

Liverpool’s ties to Boston is one of the reasons why I can’t have utter hate towards Liverpool. How can you hate on the city you love so deeply! Besides, the new ownership has brought some great talent to Liverpool in the likes of Mohamed Salah, Thiago Alcantara, and the list just goes on!

In Conclusion…

As I end my part of the deal, my loyalty and love for Manchester United remains untouched. However, the greatness that the whole entire Premier League has to offer to fans truly does make it incredibly challenging to pick a team. How can one pick a team, where there is just so much history to all of it!

The greatness and history of so many teams not just in the EPL but across the globe is just one of the many more reasons to love the beautiful game.
