The Patriots defense has been unreal this season. Let’s just state the facts. This defense has allowed one defensive touchdown through four games this season. The Patriots have been fortunate enough to get a lot of interceptions on defense. One guy that has been accumulating an interception per game has been free safety Devin McCourty. With his terrific effort in the month of September, he was named the AFC Defensive Player of the Month.

The Stats Tell The Story
Devin McCourty went off this month. With 13 tackles, four interceptions and five pass deflections; he was all over the field. It’s a testament to how good this Patriots defense has been through the first quarter of the season. McCourty has been with the Patriots his whole career and he’s been a staple to this defense. He rightfully deserved this award as he’s been a big reason why this defense has been successful.
It’s a great award for Devin McCourty to win. But, it’s an individual award. If you know this Patriots team, they care about the team aspect a lot more than the individual aspect. Winning the award is great for Devin. However, he knows he wants another Super Bowl ring. Celebrate the award for the day, enjoy it, and then move onto the Washington Redskins. Knowing McCourty, that’s probably what he’s doing. We’re on to Washington!
