DeBrusk Shines in China
Jake Debrusk flourished in his rookie season for the Bruins and he looks to keep that spark going into his second season. Last season DeBrusk tallied 16 goals and 27 assists for a total of 43 points. He played most of the season alongside David Krejci on Boston’s second line. DeBrusk has hefty expectations entering his second season and the Bruins faithful expect him to improve on a great rookie season.
DeBrusk joined the Bruins for their two preseason games in China and he certainly impressed in these games. In game one DeBrusk played along Studnicka and Donato. Donato is likely to be DeBrusk’s linemate during the season and the fact they they have found early chemistry could be a strong statement for the two to stick together. DeBrusk tallied the game winning shootout goal for the Bruins in their first game giving them a 4-3 win. In game two DeBrusk tallied two goals for the Bruins and led them to their second win of the preseason. It may be a small sample size but a good start to the preseason for DeBrusk could be a big confidence boost for him and will help him perform stronger in the regular season.
It was good to see DeBrusk making plays out there with younger teammates (Krejci did not travel to China due to Visa issues). DeBrusk worked well with Studnicka and Donato on Wednesday morning. Once DeBRusk is playing with Krejci you would expect his production to increase as Krejci is a known playmaker, and if DeBrusk gets solid chemistry with Donato that Bruins’ second line could really pack a punch. It’s only preseason but the regular season starts in two weeks so it’s good to see DeBrusk getting in an early rhythm on the ice.
DeBrusk has certainly shown he can compete at the NHL level and he belongs on the top lines of the Bruins. Hopefully he can avoid a sophomore slump and have a strong showing this season. I look forward to seeing him pot 25 goals this year.
The Bruins will continue their preseason schedule with a game against Detroit on Saturday night.
