David Ortiz Inducted into MLB Hall of Fame
During a televised special, MLB and the writers announced that former Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz was inducted into the Hall of Fame. Ortiz is the only selection from this year’s Hall of Fame election process and only the 58th first-ballot Hall of Famer in league history.

The Trip To Boston
The, now, first-ballot Hall of Famer had a stellar career with the Boston Red Sox. Ortiz received 77.9% of the vote, narrowly surpassing the 75% threshold. The Dominican native started within the Seattle Mariners system at just 17 years old. He made his way to The Show in 1997 for the Minnesota Twins, where he’d spend six years.
When In Rome…er Boston

Big Papi landed in a Red Sox uniform in 2003 after speaking with none other than former Red Sox pitcher Pedro Martinez. His first season with Boston proved to be a good one, as Ortiz finished the season with an impressive 31 home runs and 101 runs batted in. During his tenure with the Red Sox, Ortiz was selected to the All-Star Game a remarkable 10 times. He wore a Red Sox uniform almost nightly for 14 years, a .290 hitter, totaling 483 home runs and 1530 runs batted in. Ortiz brought home the World Series to Boston three times, once ending an 86 year drought for the Red Sox effectively ending the Curse of the Bambino.
Memorable Moments
We’ve grown accustomed to having Ortiz in our lives and hearts in Boston. Sometimes, you just needed Papi to get you through a tough day. Seeing sure home runs rifled off his bat always impressed. I recall one time at Fenway with my brother, he called a home run with Ortiz coming up to the plate. I said “No way,” as soon as I heard the crack of the ball on the bat.
Another moment that will live in my heart forever, you know the one. “This is our (bleep) City.” The quote we still ask him to say to this day on Marathon Monday. A simple phrase ignited a World Series run after the tragic Boston Marathon Bombing in 2013. Papi would also go onto win the World Series and World Series MVP this same year.
In 2004, when it looked like all hope had vanished, Papi went yard in the bottom of the 12th inning of Game 4 of the ALCS vs the New York Yankees. Ortiz and the Red Sox went on to complete the reverse sweep after being down 3 games to none to start the ALCS.
