Danny Ainge Says There will be Roster Changes This Off-season
The Boston Celtics are closing in on their regular season and to be honest…thank goodness! This team is looking worse and worse as the days progress on. They have lost 8 of their last 11 games and lost Wednesday night to the Cleveland Cavaliers…who are tanking. People are naturally counting the Celtics out, considering their play of late and Jaylen Brown out for the year. So of course, fans are looking toward the offseason for some help. Danny Ainge indicated change could be coming.
On @Toucherandrich, Danny Ainge says the Celtics will make changes this offseason. For obvious reasons, he didn’t go into detail.

So Danny Ainge went on the local Boston morning sports show, Toucher and Rich, and indicated that the Celtics will make changes this offseason. With this in mind, here’s a few changes we could see happening.
Goodbye Kemba Walker?
Kemba Walker’s last 5 games:
33 PTS – 4 REB – 3 AST
32 PTS – 3 REB – 4 AST
20 PTS – 6 REB – 4 AST

26 PTS – 8 REB – 3 AST pic.twitter.com/NBdl1XYe61— NBA Central (@TheNBACentral) May 8, 2021
Kemba Walker is finishing up the second of his four year max. deal with Boston. Although Walker was an All-star last season and he’s heating up as of late, this could be a name the Celtics easily trade. Listen, I love Kemba Walker. I think he embodies what it means to be a veteran in the NBA. But when you consider the bad knee, the large contract, and the age…he would be a viable trade option.
Goodbye Marcus Smart?
Marcus Smart is in the third year of a four year deal with the Celtics. Smart is an icon in Boston for his tenacious defense and fiery passion. Although he’s made strides offensively, you can tell there’s something with Smart that could rub teammates the wrong way. Smart is another trade piece that could be used this off-season to redo the roster.
Hello Bradley Beal or Karl-Anthony Towns?
Now I know these are pipe dreams. But stay with me here. Bradley Beal is really good friends with Jayson Tatum and is one of the best scorers in the NBA. He’s in Washington where they are constantly fighting to even make playoffs. Karl-Anthony Towns is a stud center that is stuck in an abysmal situation in Minnesota. Could Danny pull some magic and land one of the two in Boston? If he’s serious about contending in an Eastern Conference with Philadelphia, Brooklyn, and Milwaukee soundly ahead of you; one of these two players can help with that.
In Conclusion
We’ve heard this song and dance before. Danny Ainge loves his young draft picks. But could this FINALLY be the offseason that he trades for a veteran presence? He needs it if he wants to contend for a title. We’ve been that team that’s “one piece away” since 2015. After this underwhelming season, this is the time to shake things up.
Oh, and stop blaming Brad Stevens for this season please! He can only do so much. The rest is on Danny and the players on the roster for next season.
