Damon Is Not The Demon
Johnny Damon jumped on the Section 10 Podcast to discuss everything from family to Disney World and, most notably, to leave the Red Sox for the Evil Empire. For those of you who might be too young to remember, Damon played for the Red Sox from 2002-2005. Jesus, it feels like he was here way longer than four years. Anyways, this interview is one any Red Sox fan does not want to miss, especially if you are like me and thought “screw this dude” because he left us for our biggest rivals, the Yankees.
Interview:
During this interview, he talks about his kids and how they are still too young to understand Johnny, the baseball player, so they only know him as dad still. Not as the ’04 Red Sox postseason hero. He then goes on to say that Draft Day is one of his favorite movies, interesting take, respect it because I’m also a huge Draft Day fan. Never heard someone else say that out loud tho. While I’m not going to post the entire interview here, I will, however, post a picture of my biggest take away from this interview!

My Reaction
Coming into this, again, I was not a Damon fan strictly because I got on that narrative of he was a sellout trader who left us for more money and the Yankees. After listening to the whole, my reaction is simple. Um, what? You mean to tell me that once again the John Henry and Larry Lucchino once again just let a highly successful, fan-favorite, a significant factor is completely changing the Red Sox culture just walk out the door over money? I am not saying they need to match what the Yankees paid him, but to not even have a conversation with the man is just pure criminal. I hate this ownership group, to begin with, this just elevated that hatred! Honestly, I understand that Jacoby Ellsbury was coming up, and paying him a few thousand is way better than paying Damon millions. Does anyone want to remind me where Ellsbury is right now? Oh, yea, that’s right, the Yankees. How about how his time was in Boston? The guy is softer than puppy poop. Again, that’s easier to say now since we know how it turns out but, don’t sleep on the fact that Damon won another championship with the Yankees in 2009 and continued to play until 2012. Ownership knew what they had and just let it walk out the door, AGAIN!
Conclusion
After listening to this, I realize several things. First, I owe Johnny Damon and apology. Next, my hatred continues to grow for the Red Sox ownership continues to hit new highs! Lastly, the Red Sox didn’t even invite Damon back to their alumni game but asked Julio Lugo. Yeah, exactly, half of you don’t even know who the hell that guy is. That is how irrelevant he was during his time here. I am so happy I decided to listen to this podcast! My opinion on Damon completely changed. The guy is a great dude who got screwed over by ownership. It’s time they take more backlash for it! If you haven’t listened to it yet, do yourself a favor and listen to it. As for ownership, my strongly worded letter is already on its way!
