Cubs Addison Russell’s Ex-Wife Wrote A Blog Post Alleging Domestic Abuse
BLOG POST: “As time went on abusive behavior happened more often in arguments(more so when he was under the influence) & the verbal/emotional abuse grew to new levels. Friends would express their concerns with me but I would assure them that I was okay, he lost his temper & wasn’t himself. Everyday began to be a struggle to fake the convincing smile of a happy wife I grew accustomed to. When friends or family asked how I was or how “we” were doing, it became more difficult for me to look them in the eyes and not break down in tears. I started to distance myself from family & close friends from home, being isolated was much easier than having to put up a front to everyone, I felt guilty but I was already so numb from everything I’ve been going through, not communicating with my friends and family was the least of my problems. what would I even say anyway? What would I even talk to them about? My whole life revolved around him.”
This kind of thing is always tough to read.
Addison Russell’s ex-wife is alleging that Russell, the Chicago Cubs star, abused her both physically and emotionally.
Take the time to read this because it is a story that needs to be heard. Seeing and hearing stories like this will always confuse me and I don’t mean that I don’t understand what’s going on. I mean that I will never understand how any “man” can physically put their wife, girlfriend or fiance through something like this. The moment you physically assault your significant other, you’re no longer a man. You’re a scum bag who deserves to get his ass kicked.
Sure, Russell will probably have a 50-game suspension laid down on him, but is that enough? That’s a whole separate argument.
Something that I always like to emphasize is that these are only allegations. These are some huge claims being put against him and if for whatever reason they’re false, then it isn’t right to have this God awful label slapped on him for the remainder of his career.
Russell did release a statement according to ESPN:
“Any allegation I have abused my wife is false and hurtful,” Russell said in a statement issued Thursday afternoon. “For the well-being of my family, I’ll have no further comment.”
We’re going to have to wait and see how this story unfolds. It’s tough to hear these kinds of things in any situation. Truthfully I hope that these allegations are false for everyone involved. But if the truth is that the claims have validity, Addison Russell is going to have a tough time bouncing back into his career, at least right away.
The Cubs have placed Addison Russell on administrative leave following these allegations.
