College Football Week 5 Safe Bets
Another week, another chance to make some dough. There are quite a few games this week that catch my eye, but let’s get after the safest ones.
SMU(-7.5) At USF
Let’s start with some AAC football. SMU quarterback Shane Buechele and the Mustangs are riding high after an upset win against TCU. USF is coming off its first win in a long time, but it was against South Carolina State. SMU brings a balanced offense with them down to Raymond James Stadium as USF has sputtered on that side of the ball out of the gates. This game also pits two former Longhorns as Buechele( a grad transfer) goes against his former Texas coach Charlie Strong.
The Pick: SMU Covers
Louisiana Tech(-8.5) At Rice
Rice has been abysmal this year. Both sides of the ball. Meanwhile, Lousiana Tech is one of the better Group of 5 teams with a lot of senior leadership. They’re also one of the C-USA favorites and want to assert itself in conference play. Look for quarterback J’Mar Chase to have a big day against the Owls.
The Pick: LA Tech Covers
Washington State At Utah (O/U: 56.5)
Life’s too short to take the under! Washington State quarterback Anthony Gordon is coming off a 9 TD performance(!) in a loss to UCLA. Absolutely wild game. Utah has one of the most underappreciated running backs in CFB with Zach Moss. He’s going to have a field day. I don’t want to make a pick in this game because it’s PAC 12 after dark, and well, things get weird. All I know is that if you take the over, you’re winning.
The Pick: Over
