College Football Roundup: Week 8

Is Texas back?  Nope.  They had a nice win vs. Oklahoma but that is pretty much their season.  After losing to Oklahoma State 38-35 they drop to #15 in the AP Top 25.  College football is approaching the “show me” games to the CFB committee.  The games where you have to prove that you belong in the top 4.

Jake Fromm of Georgia only threw for 240 yards in Georgia’s 36-17 win over Florida, but his three touchdowns were huge.  Early in the third quarter, Florida took at 14-13 lead after a 36 yard TD pass from Franks to Swain.  A big play that gave Florida the lead, Georgia needed a response.

In just under 3 minutes, Fromm lead the Bulldogs down the field throwing his second TD to Holloman to regain the lead.  7 plays, 72 yards was the game winning drive but when you play your rival, you make sure you win big.  With Florida coming back and pulling within six in the fourth, Fromm struck again.  Nine plays, 75 yards in just over 2:30 Fromm connected with Terry Goodwin to give the Dawgs a 29-17 lead to nail the coffin shut.

Every year, we always say that Miami is a sleeper team.  They’re going to shock the world and finally win another championship.  And every year, Miami disappoints.  This past week, the hurricanes had a rare Friday night game on the road in chilly Chesnut Hill against Boston College.  It was BC’s annual red bandanna game in which they honor BC alum Welles Crowther.

Boasting the number one defense, the canes gave up 433 yards to BC thanks in large part to 149yards from AJ Dillon who came back from an ankle injury.  BC’s offense was able to drive down the field at ease all night including a couple of trick plays.  With the win, BC moves back into the AP Top 25.

Week 9 Games to Watch

Georgia at Kentucky is a battle of top 15 teams.  Georgia is coming off of a big win over Florida while Kentucky is coming off of a 15-14 barn burner win over Missouri.  The Wildcats have the luxury of being at home in a rather surprising season.  Kickoff is set for 3:30 on CBS.

The other game to watch is West Virginia at Texas.  The Longhorns coming off of a disappointing three point loss to OK State look to right the ship.  West Virginia is coming off of a 58-14 drubbing of Baylor.  Kickoff is set for 3:30 on FOX.
