College Football Week Two Studs
Trevor Lawrence the true freshman quarterback for Clemson threw a touchdown on his first ever collegiate pass attempt. Yes, a TRUE FRESHMAN quarterback’s first collegiate throw was a TD. The number one ranked QB coming out of high school, Lawrence is going to be a stud for Clemson.
An excellent catch from Tee Higgins who had a good game, with three receptions for 123 yards and that TD right there. Now Clemson damn near blew this game. They had a rather comfortable 14-3 lead at the half and scored two more times in the third which gave them a 28-13 lead after three. The Aggies surely weren’t going to go out that easy. They scored 13 in the fourth quarter and couldn’t convert on a two-point conversion to tie. Most noteworthy, this game did have some controversy with it. Texas A&M receiver Quartney Davis caught a ball from Kellen Mond and sees the endzone in his sight. He begins to leap forward from the four yard line but Clemson saftey K’Von Wallace knocks the ball out at the two. The ball then goes out of bounds in the endzone and the call on the field is a touchback and Clemson ball. After reviewing the play, it was upheld, thus giving Clemson the ball.
“Give K’Von Wallace some credit, you know? … That’s what the heart of a champion looks like right there. He’s giving all he’s got and he goes and knocks the ball loose and creates a situation. So, you know, it’s a bang-bang play, and if you’re on that side of it, a very tough call … I thought it was going to be hard to overturn. And if they’d called it the other way it would’ve probably been hard to overturn. But, like I said, I’m just proud of my guy for busting his butt and getting over there and knocking it loose.” -Clemson coach Dabo Swinney
With the win, Clemson stayed at #2 in the AP poll keeping up with Alabama.
Week Two Surpises
Herm Edwards has made quite the impression in his return to coaching. In week two, the Sun Devils knocked off the 25th ranked Spartans of Michigan State 16-13. Sun Devils QB Manny Wilkins went 30 of 48 with 380 yards, a TD, and a pick. With the win, Arizona State is now ranked in the AP poll for the first time since 2015. Another surprise to some is BC running back AJ Dillon. Dillon had 149 yards rushing in the first quarter alone against Holy Cross and had three touchdowns and you’ll notice BC has started to creep up near that top 25.
Stuart CahillWeek Two Duds in College Football
College football has a tendency to provide us with some rather forgettable games. Week two surely had plenty of that. Miami blew out a feeble Savannah St. squad 77-0, another blowout was Boise St. destroying UConn 62-7, and let’ts not forget Boston College obliterating Holy Cross 62-14, and so on. But for the second straight week, Florida State is a dud. The Seminoles nearly lost to SAMFORD. Yes, the FCS Samford Bulldogs. FSU trailed 23-21 at the half but at one point the Seminoles were down 13-0 and 16-7. Now luckily for the Seminoles, they scored 15 in the fourth to pull out the 36-26 win. And they can also thank key Samford turnovers for the win. If Florida State somehow doesn’t turn this around, it’s going to be another long season in Tallahassee.
