College Football Roundup: Week 12

The window to get into the college football playoffs is becoming smaller and smaller.  The top four of Alabama, Clemson, Notre Dame, and Michigan control their own destiny.  While Georgia, Ohio State, Oklahoma, and Washington State are hoping that they can sneak into the top four.  Next week is the last chance to impress the committee and with several teams having “cupcake week” this past week, others pounced.

Week 12 Studs

Image result for ian book statsNotre Dame looks well on it’s way to the top four after defeating Syracuse 36-3 in South Bend.  The Fighting Irish have one more matchup on the road against a woeful USC team next week which should be a win.  Ever since the Irish made the change at quarterback from Brandon Wimbush to Ian Book vs Wake Forest, the Irish offense has been lights out.  Since the change, the Irish have scored over 20 points in every game except one, and 30 points in every game except two.  Book has over 2,000 yards passing with 17 TD’s and only 5 int’s on the year and is in clear control of this Notre Dame football club.

Although it can be argued that Notre Dame’s schedule has been rather easy, an undefeated team is an undefeated team and they’ve earned the right to be in the top four come selection time next week.

Week 12 Duds

After getting into the AP top 25 earlier this season, Boston College looked like a team that might be on to something.  Losing to a then winless Purdue team and dropping out of the top 25, BC had to scrap it’s way back into the top 25.  BC’s record this year as a ranked team?  1-3.  With losses to Purdue, Clemson, and Florida State as a ranked team and a loss to NC State as an unranked team, many, including me, are calling for head coach Steve Addazio to be fired.  BC looked predictable against a Florida State team that has been atrocious all year long.  Relying too much on an injured AJ Dillon, BC couldn’t get anything going on the ground.  Even though Dillon did end up with over 100 yards, it’s because they ran him over 30 times.  Poor timeout management from Addazio and poor decision making cost BC the game.

The constant vanilla offense that he and offensive coordinator Scott Loeffler use is not hard for opposing teams to figure out.  If you’re a BC fan, get ready to see the Eagles in the Pinstripe Bowl (again) or the Quick Lane Bowl (again).

Week 13 Games to Watch

Week 13, the final week of the college football regular season and it’s RIVALRY WEEK.  Michigan/Ohio St, Auburn/Alabama, Florida State/Florida, the list goes on and on.  But this time around, Michigan/Ohio State determines who goes to the Big 10 title game.  Number 4 Michigan at number 10 Ohio State.  Michigan hasn’t won this game since 2011, and they haven’t won in Columbus since 2000.  Kickoff is set for 12pm on FOX.

The Iron Bowl has given us some amazing memories as of late.  Auburn has had a down year and Alabama, not surprisingly, is still number one.  Kickoff is set for 3:30pm on CBS and Auburn is looking to ruin Alabama’s perfect season on the road.

Finally, Washington goes to Washington State in a top 20 battle.  Number 18 Washington goes to Pullman to take on number 8 Washington State in the Apple Cup.  The Cougars are looking to stay alive in the top 4 and shock the world while Washington is looking to ruin their in state rivals chances.  Kickoff is 8:30pm on FOX.
