Cole Beasley Deserves Respect
While watching the 2020 Buffalo Bills, there were a lot of things to talk about. The progression of quarterback Josh Allen, newly acquired wide receiver Stefon Diggs tearing up secondaries, the emergence of rookie wide receiver Gabriel Davis and etc. However, there’s a player that does not get talked about enough and that’s wide receiver Cole Beasley. In this article, I’m going to tell you why Beasley deserves more respect.
Beasley signed with the Bills in 2019 and it was an underrated signing at first. After spending the first seven years of his career with the Dallas Cowboys, Beasley was an unrestricted free agent and signed a four year, 29 million dollar contract with the Bills. It turned out to be a great signing because Beasley had the best year of his career as he caught 67 balls for 778 yards and registered six touchdowns, according to Pro Football Reference. In 2020, he topped his 2019 stats as he caught 82 balls for 967 yards and got four touchdowns.
With stats like that, you think he would get some recognition, right? Well, not exactly. For whatever reason, he does not get talked about a lot. The fact of the matter is he is a great player. He’s one of the best, if not, the best slot receiver in the NFL. He’s a small player but he has the heart of a lion. Back in Week 16 against the New England Patriots, Beasley suffered a knee injury and no one knew how serious it was. He sat out the following week against the Miami Dolphins but was able to play in the postseason.
After the Bills got eliminated by the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC championship game, Beasley revealed he was playing in the postseason with a partially broken leg. He suffered a partially broken fibula in the Patriots game and it was hard for him to not play in the Dolphins game. In a story from Bills ESPN reporter Marcel Louis-Jacques, Beasley said, “It’s nothing that needs to be surgically repaired. It’s not a full break. It was bad the first game I played, but after that you take a few meds and suck it up. “There was no way I was going to miss the playoff game, especially after watching in Week 17, so I was going to figure it out one way or another” he added. Beasley performed well in the playoffs and he really gained even more respect from me for that courageous effort.
With all of that being said, I truly believe he should get talked about more. He’s underappreciated and next season, he deserves more respect.
