CM Punk booed in his hometown

The Bullet Club is finally headlining their self-financed event at the Sears Arena in Chicago this weekend. In the days prior to the actual wrestling show is the convention partner: Starrcast, which has been running wild with a multitude of guests and festivities to celebrate the gathering. Arguably the most notable guest for the convention is hometown boy CM Punk, who hasn’t been seen anywhere near the wrestling world since he walked out of the WWE in January of 2014. He’s doing a meet and greet/signing session today at the Pro Wrestling Tees store in Chicago.

Yesterday at the kickoff to the event, the boys in the Elite were all hyping up the crowd and trying to get reactions of who they thought was the best wrestler in the world. CM Punk’s name got brought up and the reaction was interesting, being in his rabid and normally supportive hometown.

For those who may not know the backstory: CM Punk had been involved in a lawsuit with his once longtime friend: Colt Cabana, and WWE’s Dr. Amann. Amann sued Punk and Cabana on the charge of slander due to what they discussed on Colt Cabana’s podcast 4 years ago. From what information has reached the public via screenshots of texts, Punk gave Cabana his word saying he will be 100% covered in terms of legal fees when they were to fight it.

After it was all said and done, Punk texted Cabana that he was on his own. Colt Cabana is also a Chicago native, and as has become much more beloved than CM Punk now that he’s been such a dick in the public eye, especially to one of his old friends. The same one he waved to and said “hey” to during his “pipe bomb.”

Alas, that’s why CM Punk was met with boo’s and Colt Cabana chants were to follow.

If this were anywhere else, I wouldn’t have been surprised. But now that his home of Chicago is reacting like that to the mere mentioning of him, maybe he’s not as sorely missed anymore. Nothing lasts forever.

Here’s a video of better times, where he was our hero and we all wanted to see him climb the mountain.
