The Chiefs came to agreement with the defensive tackle on a 4 year deal worth $85 Million.
Among the League’s Best
After being drafted with the 27th pick in the second round, Jones has been among the best DT’s in the NFL.
The Mississippi State product has made a pro bowl and anchored a super bowl winning defense.
He had 15.5 sacks in 2018 to go with 9 last season in a campaign shortened to 12 games by injury.
Jones helped the Chief’s defensive unit finish in the top ten of scoring defense (19.3 PG allowed) and pass yards allowed (3,543 yards allowed).
A Little Help from a Mahomie
Mahomes, new minted with the largest ever deal in sports, apparently had a helping hand.
.@PatrickMahomes told @StoneColdJones he left him some money on the table so the Chiefs could re-sign him.

I’m not sure how much room Mahomes actually left after his MASSIVE deal. However, I’m sure he wanted to resign Chris Jones.
It never hurts to have the best quarterback on earth rooting for you. Mahomes wanting the Chief’s to resign Chris certainly didn’t hurt his chances.
Cap Crunch
From here, the Chief’s have to focus on getting cheap help around the fringes for their star men.
I’m not sure Chris Jones was worth the price considering what Mahomes recieved and the need to make the whole team revolve around him at that price.
But the ink is dried. Now the AFC power will look to add cheap talent through the draft and maybe some Vets who want to take a pay cut to win.
At the end of the day, this all means the juggernaut stays intact.
