Charlie Coyle, the man from Weymouth, Massachusetts has won the 7th player award, as voted by Bruins fans on NESN’s website. This award goes to the player that exceeds the expectations of the fans.
Coyle, who the Bruins went to acquire at the 2019 trade deadline, became a fan favorite in the 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs. He scored clutch goals, such as in game 1 of the second round against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
He tied for the team lead in goals for the playoff run that fell one game short, with 9. Being a Boston area native and producing in the playoffs? Of course he’s going to become beloved by the fan base. The fans continue to love him a year later.
In the shortened 2019-20 season, Coyle put up 16 goals and 37 points in 70 games. He was a mainstay on the B’s third line, seeing many different players fill out his wings.
On November 27, 2019 the Bruins announced that Coyle and the B’s had agreed to terms on a 6 year, $31.5M ($5.250M AAV) contract extension, keeping the man in Boston through the 2025-26 NHL season.
