Carlo Ancelotti Leaves Everton For Real Madrid
This morning, Everton fans woke up to the devastating news that manager Carlo Ancelotti would be leaving the club in order to become the new boss of Real Madrid.

Everton had signed Ancelotti on a deal that ran to the end of the 2023/24 Premier League season.
As a Champions League winner and league champion in Italy, England, France, Spain and Germany, Ancelotti was Everton’s most accomplished manager since Howard Kendall.
Ancelotti said all the right things at Everton. It seemed as though he had bought into the vision and would be the man to bring the club to new heights.
“I would like to be there when the new stadium is opened. It will be a good achievement for me. To finish the contract here in 2024 means that you did a good job. It will continue… I would like to stay as long as possible.”
The worst part is, it is very difficult to blame Carlo. Real Madrid is indubitably a greener pasture than the Toffees right now.
Despite Ancelotti’s experience and the addition of star players like James Rodríguez, Everton could only manage to finish tenth in the Premier League. There were some bright spots, but it quickly became obvious that the squad was not deep enough to consistently break down what should have been lesser opposition.
Instead of entering a summer of progress, it feels as though the Everton project has been reset to square one.

Devastated. As if we had an incredible too-good-to-be-true Dad, only to discover he had another family set-up in secret. A whole other wife, kids, dog. And then realized, that we were actually the one he kept secret https://t.co/do95l47UaW

I was devastated when Big Dunc left and cried my eyes out. I was gutted at Jeffers, even Lescott and Arteta. I was only a kid and teenager then though.
I’m thirty now and this Ancelotti talk… there’s not even hope anymore. It’s never changed. Constant disappointment.

Nobody does Greek Tragedy like Everton, no one. We’re the longest running soap opera in the world, since 1878.

Roger Bennet said it best with this part of his thread on the situation:
If you watched the Blues week in and week out, the football was often disconcertingly cumbersome. The intense sadness many are experiencing this morning is about the loss of a dream rather than the actual footballing reality. And sense players like Allan were signing up for Carlo

Instead of having a promising foundation to continue to build on, the overwhelming sense is that the carpet has been pulled out from under the feet of Everton Football Club.
It is difficult to see exactly where the Toffees go from here.
For many Evertonians, having Ancelotti at the club was a dream come true. We finally had a serial winner who could attract big names and lead us into a brighter future.
Today, that dream has come crashing down.
