Buffalo, You’re on the Clock

For the second time in four years, the Buffalo Sabres will be having the first overall pick in the upcoming NHL Draft. The NHL held the lottery for the 2021 NHL Draft last night and the top three picks are Buffalo, the new expansion team Seattle Kraken and the Anaheim Ducks. The last time Buffalo held first overall was in 2018 and they selected Rasmus Dahlin. General manager Kevyn Adams is trying to turn this franchise around and said the following in the tweet below:

With that being said, I’m sick and tired of being in the draft lottery every year. It’s really annoying seeing fans being excited for getting the first overall pick. For me, we’re being rewarded for being the laughing stock of the NHL. I get it, getting first overall lands you a great player who could possibly turn your franchise around. But let’s be honest, no one wants to be awful. The Sabres haven’t made the playoffs in a decade and in that decade, Buffalo has been in the top ten for all of those drafts. We don’t know what’s going to happen with Jack Eichel and Sam Reinhart, but there’s definitely a possibility both of them won’t be back next season.

So to wrap up this article, I wasn’t happy that we got first overall. Yes I realize it’s to help turn the ship around but like I said earlier, landing top ten picks haven’t done this franchise any good. I really hope this is the last time we’re in the lottery. It ticks me off seeing “fans” wanting us to lose and get ourselves a better pick. I’m frustrated and I hate having a top five pick, no pressure Kevyn Adams. I really hope whoever they select will be good for us, I’m fed up and I’m ready for change.
