Buffalo is 6-0 for the First Time Since 1996

For the first time since 1996, the Buffalo Bandits are 6-0 after defeating the Rochester Knighthawks 11-8 on Saturday night. After defeating the New York Riptide the weekend before, the Bandits got off to a fast start in the first half. Just like the Riptide game, Buffalo had a pretty good lead until the second half came. Going into the last quarter, the Bandits had a 10-4 lead. However, the Knighthawks would make the game interesting as it would be a 10-8 game with just a few minutes to go in the fourth quarter. Instantly, the “here we go again” thought popped into my head. It was the New York game all over again. The team had a comfortable lead, only to let their opponents sneak their way back.

Buffalo’s offense, which is very deadly, only scored one goal in the second half but it couldn’t come at a better time as Josh Byrne would score to make it 11-8 Bandits with just about 4 minutes remaining in the last quarter. That would be the dagger and the Bandits would remain undefeated, moving to 6-0. It wasn’t pretty in the second half, but as Dhane Smith said in his postgame interview, “good teams find ways to win”.

I have to give credit where credit is due for the Knighthawks goaltender Ryan Hartley. He was a huge reason why Rochester almost made a comeback in the fourth quarter. Hartley made some incredible saves after having a slow start in the first half but at the end of the day, Buffalo prevailed. The Bandits need to work on finishing the game strong. During the last few weeks, they have let their opponents crawl their way back into the game. There’s not a lot of bad things about Buffalo but they do need tune up that part. It was a very physical game which is what was expected between these two rivals. The Bandits will look to go 7-0 as they will take on another rival the Toronto Rock in Hamilton this Saturday with face off taking place just after 5pm.
