Bruins West Coast Trip

The Boston Bruins have been terrible this season. They’ve squandered leads against bad teams like the Sabres and the Canucks. They have scored the fifth fewest goals in the NHL, which explains their current record of 6-6-4. The Bruins have been one of the most confusing teams to watch this year playing good games against teams like The Predators, Sharks and the Kings but playing poorly against teams like the Sabres, Rangers and Avalanche.

Now the Bruins are headed to California for a three game set playing the Ducks, Kings and Sharks. The Bruins have already played the Sharks, won 2-1, and the Kings, lost 2-1. The open their trip against the Ducks tonight, the Ducks are currently 7-7-1 and have an up and down season very similar to the Bruins. The Ducks lost Ryan Getzlaf to injury for the next few months with a facial fracture. The Ducks leading scorer Ricard Rickell has 14 points on the year. John Gibson is likely to start in the crease for the Ducks he is coming off of a loss to the Lightning on Sunday.

The Bruins have been lackluster as of late and might be without Brad Marchand again as he did not travel with the team to California. Bjork and Marchand are out for at least the next two games and will be re-evaluated on Friday. With that bad news there is some good as Krejci is a game time decision for Wednesday night but he should be back during this west coast trip. Ryan Spooner has also begun skating again although he is still a few weeks away from returning. The Bruins have lost three games in a row and they hope to figure themselves out on this road trip.

Although it is early in the season in might be time to call a spade a spade and the Bruins have been bad. They haven’t put in 60 minute efforts and they aren’t getting to the gritty areas to score their goals. It has been a season plagued by injury but nonetheless the Bruins have played poorly and their record shows that. Rask hasn’t been much help between the pipes as his season stats are a measly 2.79 GAA and a .901 SV%. This trip is a chance for the Bruins to turn things around but if they come off of it with two losses this season may only get worse.
