Bruins Getting Back Into The Swing of Things
After a pretty rough December, the Boston Bruins are back to winning hockey games. Last night, the Bruins pulled out a win thanks to two goals in the third period by Jake DeBrusk. Also notching a goal was David Pastrnak, giving him 29 goals on the season.
One of the biggest stories on the night was DeBrusk and not simply because he scored twice in 18 seconds. What makes it more amazing was the fact that coach Bruce Cassidy benched him after only a few minutes of ice time in the first period. Now this is clearly not a great thing to happen but being benched was apparently what DeBrusk needed. It put a fire in him and he ended up being a big part of the Bruins’ eventual win.
Cassidy on the message to DeBrusk & other forwards:
"It’s a privilege to put on the Bruins sweater, every night. You might not have your A game, but you better bring your B game to help the team win and be a good pro. So that’s a little bit of the message between periods."

This says a lot about Bruce Cassidy as a coach. He was able to discipline his player and almost immediately get results from it. With so many issues with NHL coaches recently, it’s nice to know the coach of your team has real control over the team without there being issues. Not to mention be able to be so successful with them.
Something that needs to be worried about though? The defensemen. The ones that have been consistantly on the ice have been playing pretty solidly but their depth is getting thin. With Torey Krug and Charlie McAvoy injured in the game against the Capitals, the Bruins had Kampfer and Moore in as their third defensive pairing. The two also probably ended up with more ice time than they were expecting when Conor Clifton went out with an upper body injury. Kampfer ended the game with two assists, helping out DeBrusk with both of his goals.

Clifton, McAvoy, Krug and now also Krejci will not be traveling to New Jersey with the team for tomorrow’s game against the Devils. Jeremy Lauzon has been recalled from Providence and will travel with the team. The Bruins’ next home game is Thursday against the Blue Jackets.
