Bruins at Red Wings Preview
Well don’t look now but the Bruins are getting hot, in their last 10 games the Bruins are 8-2-0 and they are about to face off against an abysmal Red Wings team that is 1-5-4 in their last 10. This should be an easily winnable game for the Bruins and they could use the boost in the division standings.
The Red Wings have been very disappointing this season and it doesn’t look like things are going to turn around for them anytime soon. Larkin is leading the team with 23 points followed by Mantha and Abdelkader. Their goaltending situation is still messy as neither Howard nor Mrazek has been able to find a groove in net and both have poor numbers on the year. Their defensive core is severely aged as Kronwall, Green and Daley are all over 30 and their young defenseman haven’t been impressive. It looks like it might be tough couple years for the Red Wings as they are likely entering a rebuilding phase. The Red Wings will likely start Jimmy Howard tonight.
The Bruins have been rolling and it’s in large part to their youth and their NHL veterans performing up to par. The injury bug is finally leaving the Bruins as only McQuiad and Spooner are on the injury list. Kevan Miller will miss tonight’s action due to the birth of his child. The return of Backes and Marchand full time to the lineup has given the Bruins a surge and they are finally looking like the team we expected them to be. In their last 5 games the Bruins have scored 18 goals including a 6 goal outburst against the Coyotes. The Bruins sit third in the Atlantic and are trying to hold their ground with another win tonight. Rask will be in net for the Bruins and he has returned to being an elite goaltender and is attempting to improve his season record.
The game is tonight at 8:00 and will be broadcast on NBCSN. This is the first meeting between the Bruins and the Red Wings and they meet again later this week. Be sure to tune in.
