Browns at Bengals: Fantasy Football Preview

Welcome to yet another football-loaded week in the NFL and this time it’s week nine.

Ahead of this clash with the Browns at Bengals, there are some news to share. The Cleveland Browns have released WR, Odell Beckham Jr this morning.

With these news, for fantasy football managers there are some questions. Who do you start this week, bench and who might be someone to keep on the radar? Especially after these news! Let’s dive in as I have thoughts to share with you.

Your Starters this Week!

Joe Mixon vs. Nick Chubb – Start BOTH!!

I fully expect this game to involve a serious running game matchup especially a showdown between Chubb and Mixon.

For Mixon, this is a tough matchup but one where we can expect him to bounce back after an upset in week eight against the Jets. Mixon put up serious numbers against the Jets, including 2 TD’s and 82 scrimmage yards. Going against the Cleveland defense won’t be easy. However, as Joe Burrow will look to unload the ball fast before Myles Garrett and company get to him, Mixon’s running abilities will come to play and will be essential in Cincinnati’s offensive scheme for this game.

Meanwhile, Chubb can be expected to have a stronger return performance than that of week eight.

Yes, the Bengals have been difficult allowing the 8th fewest points per game to running backs. However, after having a tough outing against an even tougher defense in Pittsburgh, you can rest assure that Chubb is looking to readjust and deliver. Chubb should be a starter as this matchup makes him a low-end RB1/high-end RB2 player.

Steer Away From…

Austin Hooper – Cleveland TE

Out of all the games the Browns have played this year, this is easily top three less favorable for the tight-end. If you listened to the latest episode of “The Feeling Dangerous” Podcast on Apple Podcasts, you may have noticed he is also a very questionable player so far this year in terms of production.

Aside of his week three performance against the Chicago Bears, Hooper’s production has been everything short of hopeful and impressive. One thing that also doesn’t help, is the fact that he continues to split duties with David Njoku who has been more involved in the offensive scheme.

In addition, the Bengals are seventh in terms of allowing the fewest points per game to receiving tight ends. All in all, just not a week to consider him by any means as a starter.

Keep An Eye Out for…

Donovan Peoples-Jones: WR Cleveland Browns

Sorry Browns fans for the reminder. However, with OBJ released earlier this morning, rest assure that Donovan Peoples-Jones is the immediate replacement.

Granted, Peoples-Jones returns at the perfect time after being sidelined two weeks in a row due to a lingering groin issue. With Baker looking to move on from this week and show the world he does not need OBJ in his team, like he’s done all season long basically, Peoples-Jones if able to suit up and play, will be a menace for Cincinnati’s defense.

Aside of Cincinnati, this is a guy who will have ample usage moving forward this season. Definitely a guy to keep an eye out for.

Additional Waiver Wire Prospect

CJ Uzomah – Cincinnati Bengals TE

The fifth round pick in the 2015 NFL Draft has been having himself a decent season in 2021.

Despite having a weird week last week when his team fell to the Jets, Uzomah has been productive for the Bengals. So far throughout the year, CJ has caught the ball 21 times out of 23 targets. Having over 200 yards in receptions and five TD’s in an offense with talents like rookie Ja’Marr Chase and other more productive targets, Uzomah has made sure to make himself an option that Burrow can’t look past.

While this game against Cleveland may not be the most opportune to grab him off waivers, its certainly a name you may want to keep your eyes on in weeks to come.
