I don’t care who knows it, I am a Pokémon nerd. I always have been and I always will be. This morning Pokémon had a “Pokémon Presents” event. I have done a great job at lowering my expectations for these type of events. While I was really hoping for a remake of Gen 4, I was fully expected to be let down and to get news about another “Let’s GO!” style game.
“Pokémon Brilliant Diamond” and “Pokémon Shining Pearl” are real and they are coming in 2021. I’ve never been happier to be wrong about something. Pokémon absolutely killed this presentation. They actually announced remakes of Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl are coming to the Nintendo Switch. I can’t remember the last time Nintendo in general lived up to crazy rumors, hype, or expectations. Not only did they live up to them this time, they blew past them.
My biggest takeaway here regarding these remakes is the games won’t take on the play and art style of Pokémon Sword and Shield. No, no, no. We are going BACK TO “BIRDS EYE” or “TOP DOWN” view. Whatever you want to call it, we are going back to original Pokémon visuals. We are getting top down views on the game with the freedom to move where we please and not limited to the 1×1 movement style of the older games. It’s like they are inside my mind and know what I want. Don’t know what I’m talking about? Take a little look at the video above or this image I got from the video:
That’s not all they delivered. If you were a fan of Pokémon Snap, they showed more gameplay of the new Pokémon Snap game coming out on April 30th of this year. Personally, I’m not an enormous fan but I know there’s a huge market for it. The gameplay looked great and I think fans of the older game will love this one as well.
BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE?!??!?!??!?!??!?!?
Yes. ALSO announced was “Pokémon Legends Arceus”. This looks incredibly interesting. Think of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Now imagine THAT type of world but with Pokémon. That’s the best way I can describe it. Taking place in the Sinnoh region to keep with the Gen 4 hype train, you are able to run around like Link would be able to. Running, diving, rolling, you can probably even backflip. You’re aiming and throwing poke balls to capture Pokémon in this as well. I’m not sure what the story is here but at the very least it sounds like we are getting several “never before” type features in this game. This image is a little blurred, but you can get the general idea of what I’m talking about:
All in all this is probably the happiest I’ve been about any sort of videogame announcements I can remember. The nostalgia is already hitting me and these games are 10+ months away from release. I know there are a lot of closet Pokémon fans out there. It’s okay, please announce your love for something that has been with us for 25 (!!!!!) years now. I am 26 years old, probably will be 27 by the time I get my hands on these games. If you laugh at me for having this type of reaction I got news for you: I do not care. I could not care any less. Let the anticipation rise to the sky because Sinnoh I have a few words for you:
My Turtwig and I are coming for you. And we will dominate you.
