Brayan Bello to make Major League debut for Red Sox on Wednesday
The Boston Red Sox have had their fair share of problems with starting pitchers staying healthy. They’ve had Chris Sale, James Paxton, Nathan Eovaldi, Rich Hill, and Michael Wacha all on the IL at some point this season. The Red Sox have been fortunate to have young pitchers such as Josh Winchowski, Connor Seabold and Kutter Crawford step up in their place. And now, we have another young Red Sox prospect pitcher making his Major League debut today. Brayan Bello will be making his Major League debut on Wednesday for the Red Sox against the Tampa Bay Rays, at Fenway Park.
Meet Red Sox pitcher Brayan Bello
Brayan Bello is a 6’1 pitcher from Samana, Dominican Republic. He is 23 years old and has risen through the Minor League systems in quite a hurry. Bello is a pitcher that shows off three plus pitches. He has a fastball that consistently sits mid to high 90’s, occasionally touching triple digits. Along with the fastball, he has a plus slider and really good changeup. At the MLB level, you need to have three really good pitches to make it as a starter. It appears as though Bello has that in his repertoire.
What to expect from Brayan Bello in his Red Sox debut
Bello needs to control his fastball in order to be effective. If he misses his spots, he can get creamed by this Tampa Bay Rays lineup. Bello can get a lot of swings and misses with his stuff, again as long as he locates. Truthfully, I expect the young right hander from the Dominican Republic to go five innings. He’ll probably give up 2 runs, on 6 hits, 1 walk, and 4 strikeouts. Not dominant, but good enough to put the Red Sox in a position to win the game.
Bottom line is that Brayan Bello is an exciting Red Sox prospect. Hopefully, he shows why he’s been dominant, particularly in Worcester. The future looks bright for the Red Sox if Bello can shine in his MLB debut.
