The Red Sox are attempting to avoid being swept by the Yankees and falling into third place in the AL East on Wednesday night. The club will be trying to earn a win and get back into second place, but without a certain bat. Kyle Schwarber will not be in the lineup for the Red Sox in the series finale. Schwarber played in both games of the doubleheader on Tuesday. According to Alex Speier of The Boston Globe, manager Alex Cora said Schwarber is available off the bench.
Red Sox being cautious?
Since coming off the injured list on August 13, Schwarber has gone 4-for-11 with two doubles, three walks and three runs.
The Red Sox are being cautious with Kyle Schwarber as he returns from a hamstring injury. Boston will miss his bat in the lineup. The offense struggled mightily in the doubleheader on Tuesday.
“It’s frustrating we are not playing the way we’re capable of,” said Cora. His offense went 2-for-14 with runners in scoring position on Tuesday. “It’s been going for a while in a sense the offense is not where we want to be.”
Schwarber will get a chance in the outfield following the Yankees series. Boston will ensure they are cautious with their big deadline acquisition.
The Red Sox need to win Wednesday nights game to get back into second place. Following the series, Boston will play Texas and Minnesota respectively and will look to gain some much needed momentum.
