Boston College’s Coaching Search Is Heating Up

Much to the joy of Eagles fans everywhere, BC cut ties with head coach Steve Addazio on Bloody Sunday. Since then a number of names have come and gone in the rumor mill for who will be the next head man on the sideline of Chestnut Hill.

There was a wide variety of names associated with the vacancy left by Addazio, and the name most familiar to Eagles fans was Don Brown. Brown is a former defensive coordinator for BC and now the defensive coordinator for Michigan. Another big name that was explored was Cinncinati head coach Luke Fickell. Based on reports, it sounds like Fickell turned down the opportunity electing to stay at Cincy…for now.

Where things stand now

The hunt for the head coach has come down to three defensive-minded coaches. The top candidate is Jeff Hafley, the current co-defensive coordinator for Ohio State. Hafley has a long-standing relationship with athletic director Martin Jarmond. The best part of bringing in Hafley is that he’d likely bring Ohio State linebacker coach Al Washington with him. Washington is a BC alum and also considered to be the 3rd favorite candidate. The middle man between the two is Texas A&M defensive coordinator Mike Elko. Elko has had previous stops at Wake Forest and Notre Dame, where his defenses were always stingy.

As it stands right now, I’d put my money on Hafley being the guy with Washington as his DC.
