Boogie To The Warriors Is Not As Bad As You Think

Like many other people Tuesday night, when the DeMarcus Cousins news hit the web, I lost my freaking mind. DeMarcus Cousins, arguably one of the 15 best players in basketball, signed a 1 year/ $5.3 Million dollar deal with the 2 time defending champion Golden State Warriors. Meaning that the Warriors currently have 5 of the top 25 in basketball right now. The internet lit on fire with many saying it may be time to boycott the NBA. At first reaction I was part of it. But now that I have calmed down and taken a breath; this is not as bad as you think.

Going into free agency, Cousins was rated as the 3rd best free agent only behind LeBron and Paul George. But when free agency opened, Cousins did not receive the offers that was expected. There are two reasons for this. One is that Cousins is obviously a mental case and the second is much more important. That achilleas injury is a lot worse than people thought. The original prognosis was that Cousins would be back around Christmas, but its now starting to sound closer to the end of January/early February. So teams like the Mavs or Lakers didn’t want to make a huge investment on a player that may not ever be the same again.

Now don’t get me wrong, I still don’t like that Cousins is on the Warriors. But its important to remember he’s only there for one year and he’ll only be at 70%. Cousins needs to prove he’s healthy and that he is a good teammate in a winning environment. So its not like the Warriors will have Cousins for the full year and going to 100%. If that was the case, the Warriors would go 98-0. So let the offseason continue and get ready for Summer League this weekend everyone.
