Bobby Orr Announces Endorsement for Donald Trump

No Fake Fans Allowed

First off, no fake fans allowed in the Bruins fan base. Our fan base is crazy enough and we don’t need the wannabees who don’t understand the difference between “icing” and “offsides”. I don’t care what side of the political spectrum you all under, but we don’t need your pretend energy in this fanbase.

Unless you’re truly interested in learning the game, then welcome and buckle up for a wild ride. Just because you approve of Bobby Orr’s endorsement of Donald Trump does not mean you’re automatically a Bruins or Bobby fan. (Yes, I am a salty fan who does not want pretend fans in my fan base.)

Orr Makes Statement Supporting Trump

Boston Bruins legend, Bobby Orr, endorsed President Donald Trump on Friday, October 30th. He took out an ad in New Hampshire’s Union Leader to raise support for Trump’s re-election. The ad includes a picture with Orr holding a “thumbs up” gesture alongside the President.

The two-time Stanley Cup Champion said the following,

“Everyone has an opinion as our upcoming Presidential election approaches, and I am no different. When I look at American during these turbulent times, I keep trying to separate style from substance, fact from fiction. This much I know. Our current President has had to operate under extremely difficult conditions over these past several years. In addition, no leader anywhere signed up with the idea that dealing with a worldwide pandemic would be a part of their mandate. The attacks on our president have been unrelenting since the day he took office. Despite that, President Trump has delivered for all the American people regardless of race, gender of station in life. That’s the kind of teammate I want.”

Hockey Twitter Divided

After Hockey Twitter caught wind of the article, an uproar from all sides immediately spurred. After digging around on Twitter a little, I was able to categorize tweets into three vastly different types.

The Differing View but Understanding

For the most part, I have seen this take when fans reacted to Orr’s ad. People were not afraid to voice their different opinions on the President but ultimately understood that Orr had his own view.

The Crushed Fan

Throughout the realm of Hockey Twitter, I’ve spotted many fans who were absolutely devastated over Bobby Orr’s support for Trump. Some fans were not afraid to voice their discontent towards the NHL Hall-of-Famer.

The Supporter

Lastly, we have “The Supporter”. In regards to this category, this could further be broken down into those who do know of Orr’s hockey accomplishments very well and those who only glorify Orr because they are Trump supporters as well.

His Opinion

All I will say is that although I do not agree with Bobby Orr’s support for the President, the former Bruins defenseman is entitled to his own opinions. He still is the best defenseman of all time. And, when I met Orr, he was extremely kind and respectful. He even held my hand when he signed my book!

And if you only support Orr because of his political views, please actually respect the man’s hockey accomplishments. He is more than just a man who supports our President. And to glorify him solely on his political view, in my opinion, is disrespectful. Learn what he had accomplished in the hockey world!!!

Clearly, Bobby Orr means a lot to this Bruins fan.

Thoughts?

Do you believe that sports figures should keep their political beliefs to themselves and out of the game? Or do you think Bobby Orr had every right to vocally share his endorsement? Why or why not? Share your thoughts below!
