Blake Snell will NOT be Playing Baseball This Season

Take a Walk

The Ace of the Tampa Rays pitching staff is not in love with the idea of playing for a reduced MLB salary.

Blake Snell let everyone know in a video posted to social media on Wednesday.

Snell, while listening to some dope tunes, opined, “Nah I’m not splitting no revenue, I want all mine,” among other things.

Blake’s statement comes on the heels of reports that Major League Baseball owners approved a plan for a 50-50 revenue split with players and themselves.

In the proposed plan to bring back America’s past time, play would resume in July.

Cash Out

While being brash and candid in his response to the report, Blake’s sentiment seems to reflect similar opinions among other players.

The MLBPA is expected to reject the proposal.

Rays manager balked at the chance to weigh in on Snell’s words, saying “I guess we all have a right to say what we want to say and believe and feel what we want to believe.”

First of all, that quote is like something a 1st semester philosophy major would say at a party to impress a girl. Second of all, in the age of doxing, I’m not sure we sure advocate saying whatever you want anymore. A filter is good, especially for pubic figures.

You Wanna Go To War Blake

In a text to the Tampa Bay Times Blake re-framed his soft rant from the social media video.

I mean honestly it’s just scary to risk my life to get Covid-19 as well as not knowing and spreading it to others. I just want everyone to be healthy and get back to our normal lives cause I know I miss mine!”

It is scary, and he should be getting paid appropriately. We all can sympathize with this. Blake said he would rather skip the season entirely than play for considerably less money in this revenue split situation. However, this video is a very tough look for someone who makes 10 million a year.

That being said, the opinion Blake has seems to echo among other players and the MLBPA. So we may not be as close to baseball as we thought, which sucks because we all miss baseball. Heck, the players miss it too, nobody wants this! Hopefully, the next time we hear from Blake it will be at a podium after a great performance. Maybe even lauding the work of health workers who allowed baseball to open back up.

For the record, I’m #teamblake on this, I just really miss baseball and would love the MLB and MLBPA to come to some sort of agreement ASAP.
