Biggest Takeaways From Jets/Bills

The Buffalo Bills defeated the New York Jets in Week 1 by a final score of 27-17. Even though the Bills won the game, there were some things that caught my eye.

Tyler Bass

Rookie kicker Tyler Bass made half of his field goals, which is part of the reason why the game was somewhat close. Bass missed his first two field goal attempts. The first one was from 34 yards out and the second one was from 38 yards out. He was able to redeem himself by making the next two. Even though Bass missed some attempts, I still believe in him. It was windy out and he probably had some jitters with him playing in his first NFL game. At first I wanted the Bills to bring back Stephen Hauschka, who was released because Bass won the kicking job during training camp. However, I want to see how he does the next few weeks.

Josh Allen

Even though the Bills quarterback threw for over 300 yards for the first time in his career, Josh Allen needs to work on his ball security. The other reason why the score should’ve been a larger deficit is because Allen fumbled the ball twice. If Josh didn’t fumble the ball, Buffalo would’ve scored more points because both fumbles were in the red zone. Allen did have a great game and played the best game of his career in my opinion, but ball security is something else he needs to work on.

Buffalo’s wide receiving core

The last thing that stood out in this game was how Allen used his wide receivers. Not only did he use Stefon Diggs, but he also threw the ball to Cole Beasley and John Brown. There wasn’t just one player getting all the workload, everyone was getting involved which really made me happy. On some occasions, they would use the jet sweep with speedy wide receiver Isaiah McKenzie. It goes to show you how much talent Buffalo has on offense and gives Allen more weapons.
