Bad News For The Bruins’ Marcus Johansson

Last night during the Bruins’ contest against the Hurricanes, Marcus Johansson was checked hard by Michael Ferland. Johansson was visibly stunned and the trainer had to help him to his feet and off the ice.

Without a doubt, this is a clean check by Ferland and there’s no way around that. It sucks that Johansson had been playing well with that Krejci and DeBrusk line and will now be out for at least a few games. Johansson has some bad concussion history so it will take some time for him to get back into the Bruins lineup.

Cassidy spoke on the matter this morning saying that Johansson was taken to the hospital last night and that everything looked okay. It’s always good to hear a coach be optimistic after a serious collision like that but either way it’s doubtful we see Johansson anytime before next weekend. Two years in a row the Bruins have acquired wingers at the deadline who have shortly thereafter been hurt. It’s a tough blow for the Bruins as they now have to shuffle around their top 6 again and use Backes or Cehlarik in that role once again.

On the brighter side, the Bruins did beat the Canes in overtime and have brought their point streak up to 17 games. Their lineup will look a little different Thursday night when they go for 18 against the Panthers. Hopefully, Johansson will be back and contributing for the Bruins soon.
