OOOOOOOOOOOOKAY THEN! This is something that I did NOT expect to see on a Saturday. Here I am ready to get my Bruins playoff watching on and all of a sudden, I got caught up in the Twitter-sphere with this. Albert Pujols was recently released by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. A lot of people, including myself, were expecting to see a reunion with the St. Louis Cardinals. However, the news came out today that the Dodgers and Pujols agreed to a deal for the rest of the season. So here’s a few tidbits.
What Happened to the Cardinals?
Albert Pujols is "drawing interest" from the St. Louis Cardinals, per @JonHeyman pic.twitter.com/1iEI2KQ9nj

Albert Pujols has reached out to the Cardinals, saying he would take a limited playing role with a mentorship value add, in order to finish his career in a Cardinals uniform.

What happened to the interest from the Cardinals? Keep in mind, “The Machine” played for the Cardinals for the first 10 years of his career. The reunion would’ve made sense in hindsight. The Cardinals could’ve been the best story of the week by bringing Albert back home for one final hurrah! Now? This just looks like a missed opportunity.
What Will His Role be with the Dodgers?
I’m genuinely curious as to what Albert Pujols’s role will be with the Dodgers. He’ll be a part time player at best for this Dodgers team. The Dodgers already have Max Muncy who can take care of first base. Maybe we’ll see Pujols on an off day for Muncy? That’s the most educated guess I can take at this point. Then again, we all have to remember that this isn’t the three time All-Star in his prime Pujols that we’re getting here. This Albert Pujols is 41 years old and at the end of his career. Honestly, this could be a ring-chasing signing for Pujols and I don’t blame him at this point.
It’s great to see that Albert Pujols will be going out on his own terms. Let him contribute a little bit for the Dodgers and see if he can get another World Series ring out of the deal. We’re witnessing the end of one of the game’s greats. Let’s cherish the time we have left of Pujols in the MLB…even if it HAS to be with the Dodgers.
