5 Cinderella Stories We Could See

With March Madness underway in less than a week, we finally have the bracket. After a long hiatus due to the pandemic, we are poised to have a tournament for the first time in two years. The NCAA did a fantastic job putting it together so that they would be able to play this year. This is going to be a tournament for the ages, and looking at the bracket it looks like one of the toughest brackets in recent memories. With every bracket comes a potential Cinderella story and with that being said here are the five Cinderella stories that we could see in the NCAA tournament.

Ohio Bobcats 

Ohio is the 13th seed in the West bracket. They take on a Virginia team that is coming off of covid issues that saw them exiting the ACC tournament quicker than they expected. Ohio is led by junior guard Jason Preston who earlier in the season went toe to toe with Ayo Dosunmu from Illinois in their two point loss. This Ohio team won the MAC tournament and I think they have a really good shot at making it to the second weekend of the NCAA tournament.

Fun fact for you guys the last time a number 13 seed made it to the second weekend was when Ohio did it in back in 2012. Watch out for this Ohio team as they will be a tough out.

Michigan State Spartans

Now this team at the beginning of the year looked like they were going to be right at the top of the Big Ten. That was not the case during the regular season. It is March though and we know what Tom Izzo’s teams do in March for the majority. The Spartans start off in the First Four vs UCLA. That will be a tough one, but I think they can get by them in that matchup. Then they would play BYU which I think they could beat as well.

After that they would probably play Texas which would be tough, but it is Tom Izzo in March. Anything can happen and Michigan State just might make another one of those historic Tom Izzo in March runs.

Winthrop Eagles

Winthrop is the 12th seed in the South Region. Their first round matchup is against a banged up Villanova team. I think that Winthrop can easily get by Villanova. They would then take on the winner of Purdue and North Texas. I see them getting matching up with Purdue, and that would be a very good game. Purdue is very physical and has good size, but I do think Winthrop would have a chance of making a run. Look out for this Winthrop team, they only lost one game all season and it was by two points. They are talented and will be a tough team to play against.

LSU Tigers 

The LSU Tigers put the NCAA on notice in the SEC Tournament. LSU is a tough team and as an eight seed, they are the last team I would want to see in the second round if I was a number one seed. The Tigers are led by their three headed monster of Freshman Cameron Thomas, Sophomore Trendon Watford, and junior Ja’Vonte Smart. This team gets the A-10 champs St. Bonaventure in the first round and if they win in the second round they would get Michigan.

I think this team matches up well with Michigan and if Michigan is going to be without their starting guard Isaiah Livers or even have him at less than 100 percent, that is a huge advantage for LSU. This LSU team definitely has the chance at the second weekend and beyond due to how good that they are playing right now.

Georgetown Hoyas 

The Big East Champions that nobody thought they would see in 2021. Georgetown is the 12 seed in the east region, and will be a tough out in my opinion. This is the fan favorite Cinderella story that we would like to see. As Georgetown took down a good Creighton team in the Big East Tournament Final. They get Colorado in the first round and would play the winner of Florida State and UNC Greensboro in the second round.

We want to see Patrick Ewing succeed, and with the way this team has played as of late it looks as we will see this team playing in the second weekend. Watch out for the Hoyas as they can make an argument as being one of the hottest teams in the country right now.
