100% Biased Thoughts From a UGA Football Fan

As a Dawgs fan, I’ve been looking forward to NYE all season. We are exactly who we thought we were back in August: a team contending for a National Championship. So if you’d like to read some completely biased thoughts from a UGA football fan heading into the College Football Playoff, say less.

Michigan Doesn’t Want The Smoke

For starters, I think Michigan is just happy to be here. They’re the Fringe Guy who got the last minute invite to the bachelor party and is over the moon about it. Michigan has already accomplished what they realistically set out to do this season: finally beating Ohio State. Being in the Playoff feels like an unexpected cherry on top. I could be way off, but that’s the vibe I’ve gotten from them all year. From only watching a few of their primetime games, I think their defense is very disciplined. They run the ball hard and their offense is average. They seem like a watered down version of Georgia.

On the other hand, Georgia is pissed off. The last team in the country I’d want to see right now is the Dawgs. Kirby is about to have these dudes so fired up for this game. Just listen to this Kirby sound bite below from earlier this season. That’s a guy who I’d run through a brick wall for. Kirby not being able to “win the big game” has been his story ever since he took over in Athens. There’s no one who wants this more than Kirby, and everyone who watches the Dawgs knows that.

How We Got to Feeling This Confident

This game will come down to one thing: athleticism. Georgia has ath-e-letes. SEC speed is different. Michigan isn’t used to playing teams like Georgia. The only teams that have scared me all year are Bama and Ohio St. Both of those teams have athletic QBs and future pros at all of their skill positions. Georgia’s biggest weakness is their secondary, so in my head Bama and Ohio St. are the only teams talented enough to expose them for that. Which is why the Tide are currently the champions of the SEC. As long as Stet isn’t in a position where he has to make perfect throws all night, the Dawgs will be just fine.

The one Michigan man who worries me is Aidan Hutchinson. He’s an absolute behemoth. But I know Kirby and the boys will have a plan to mitigate his impact, and this will be the best O-line that Michigan plays all year. Hutchinson has to be doubled every play. I just don’t think he’ll be able to take over this game like he has in nearly every other game this season. And while Hutchinson is a future lottery pick, UGA’s defense is littered with first-rounders.

Ride the Dawgs

Right now the Dawgs are favored by 7.5. I think they easily cover and cruise to the Natty for a rematch against the Tide. I’m not scared at all of Michigan and I’ll be absolutely shocked if this game comes down to the wire. I see it coming down to Georgia out-athlete-ing Michigan at every position, especially coming off of that embarrassing performance in the SEC Championship. Don’t overthink it and throw the mortgage on the Dawgs. Let’s go.
