Yankees Andrew Heaney was Dominant, Andrew Velazquez the Red Sox Killer
The Boston Red Sox are sinking faster than the Titanic. The once promising season now looks like it’s on the verge of collapse. Boston has fallen into sole possession of third place and is now one full game behind the New York.
On Wednesday, the Yankees were looking for a three game sweep of their rivals. Andrew Heaney would take the mound and he silenced the Red Sox offense.

Andrew Heaney was dominant in the Yankees 5-2 win, only giving up two hits over seven innings. Coming into the game, Heaney entered with a 9.00 ERA (15 earned runs in 15 innings) since being traded to the Yankees.
One of the two hits Heaney surrendered was a home run to Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts. The solo shot in the first inning was his 19th of the season.

Bogaerts home run never phased Heaney as he dug in on the bump and tossed a gem. The win for the Heaney and the Yankees moved them into sole possession of second place. But Heaney admitted after the game, they’re focused on more than Boston.
“I don’t think anybody’s focused on the Red Sox,’’ said Heaney. “We’re more focused on the Yankees. We want to win, no matter who we’re facing.”
Heaney wasn’t the only hero for the Bronx Bombers on Wednesday. Infielder Andrew Velazquez was a Red Sox killer during the three game sweep.

The 27-year-old went 2-for-4 in the series finale, driving in two RBIs and made the game winning play in the ninth.

With the loss, the Red Sox are now in third place with a record of 69-54. They have lost 15 of 22 and are six games behind the Rays for first in the division.
