The MLB trade deadline is three days away and we have a lot of rumors flying around. With a 62-39 record, expect the Boston Red Sox to be buyers at the deadline. There are a lot of names that have been linked to the Red Sox. But could one name appear in trade rumors before the deadline is over? So the trade would be Blaze Jordan and Nick Yorke in exchange for Max Scherzer. Would you do this trade if you’re Chaim Bloom? Here’s a few things to consider.
This Red Sox trade Means Goodbye to Two Top 10 Prospects
So the Red Sox would be getting rid of two top 10 prospects. Nick Yorke is the 8th ranked prospect in the Red Sox minor league system, according to MLB.com. Blaze Jordan is the 10th ranked prospect, according to the same site. These are young assets that could be part of your long term future. Do you really want to get rid of two young talented prospects that can help you be good for the next 5-10 years?
Max Scherzer would be a Rental
I love Max Scherzer. He’s been one of the more consistent pitchers of this past decade. He is in the final year of his current contract with the Nationals. At the age of 37, would the Red Sox really risk bringing in Scherzer as a rental and then let him walk away after the conclusion of the 2021 season? Personally, I don’t see Chaim Bloom and the Red Sox doing that.
In Conclusion
Do I want Max Scherzer in a Red Sox uniform? Absolutely! But do I realistically think the Red Sox will make this move? No. It’s too much of a risk unless the Red Sox and Scherzer can agree to an extension before the end of the season. Other than that, I see this as more of a pipe dream than anything else.
