What Deals got Done? NFL’s Extension Deadline
Today is the last day that players who were franchise tagged could sign an extension before next season. Just hot off the press, Titans running back, Derrick Henry, has agreed to a new four year deal with the Titans. The exact terms of the deal are unknown, but the two sides are looking to finalize the deal y tonight.

Henry was one of the top rushers in the league last season. He is one of those rare breeds who does not excel in the passing game but still racked up the points in PPR fantasy leagues. He is certainly one of the top backs in the league. The main question surrounding Henry is just how long can he last? Because he does not catch a lot of passes and takes a lot hits. How long can his body hang on?
The deal that did not get done (yet)
All of Cowboys nation is waiting for Dak Prescott to get his new contract. Based on Patrick Mahomes got, Prescott probably wants more the $600 million total. Of course we all know that Dak Prescott is not one of the top 3 or 4 quarterbacks in the NFL, but quarterbacks are some of the highest paid players in all of sports. Prescott will command one of the most expensive contracts in the NFL. The Cowboys get get out from under Amari Cooper after this season or next season and they can use that extra money for Prescott’s new deal.
Non-Franchise tag deals
I already mentioned Patrick Mahome’s new contract, but who else got paid? The Chiefs also managed to give Chris Jones a new deal. Myles Garrett also got a new contract recently. He and the Browns agreed on a new 5 year, $125 million deal. He is certainly the anchor of that defense and one of the premier pass rushers in the league. Mason Rudolph probably has a lot to say about Mr. Garrett, but Garrett is the one with the massive contract.
Final Thoughts
The big question remaining is what happens with Dak Prescott. When will he get a new deal. Will it even be with the Cowboys? Probably, but they haven’t had any luck negotiating as of now. Derrick Henry will be a much more wealthy man when he goes to be tonight. He certainly deserves a new contract, but how long will his body hold up? Will the Titans come to regret this contract when it is all said and done? Only time will tell.
