Week One Fantasy Football Starts

Fantasy Football Begins

A week from today is the opening night for the 2021 NFL Season. Football fans all across the nation are ecstatic and fantasy owners are ready to put their draft skills to the test and see how their teams score in the first matchup of the season. Today we will focus on “must start” players at each position including the Quarterback, Running Back, Wide Receiver, as well as team Defense’s. Our focus will be to avoid obvious must starts such as Mahomes, Allen, Adams, Diggs, Henry and Cook. Let us begin week one fantasy football with the QB’s.

Week One Fantasy Football: Quarterbacks

Baker Mayfield

In a rivalry matchup against the Chiefs, I expect Baker to come out firing and fully utilize OBJ and Landry in the passing game. The Chiefs do two things very great. Score points and also allow other teams to score due to their completely average defense. I think the Chiefs will win this matchup but the Browns will be able to hang around. Baker should throw for 300+ yards with three Touchdowns.

Jameis Winston

In a great opening matchup vs. Green Bay. There is a strong chance the Saints will be playing from behind given the great Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams on the other side of the ball. The Saints offense will continue to succeed no matter who plays the position of Quarterback. I predict Winston to throw for 270 yards with two Touchdowns.

Week One Fantasy Football: Running Backs

Kareem Hunt

Kareem Hunt is a running back that continues to go under the radar. He is a must start every week in PPR even though Nick Chubb is the TD vulture. Hunt is the main receiving back and continues to rack up receptions and yards each and every game. Chubb and Hunt are the ultimate one – two punch and are the best backfield duo in the league. Hunt should catch 6 passes for 42 yards and a Touchdown.

Damien Harris

Usually it is very tough to trust a Patriots running back outside of pass catcher James White. Harris is set to be the full blown work horse running back for 2021. Opening game vs Miami will be a slugfest and I envision Harris getting north of 20 carries for 107 yards and a Touchdown. The Patriots will look to be a run first, defensive team under rookie Mac Jones.

Wide Receivers

Michael Pittman

Indianapolis is set to start the season with the QB position up in the air due to Wentz health. If the Colts have anything going for them on offense it is their offensive line along with promising second year wideout Michael Pittman. I believe he will lead the team in targets week one as well as all season long. Expect Russell Wilson and the Seahawks to make this game a high scoring affair. Pittman should haul in 8 catches for 100 yards against Seattle.

Chris Godwin

If you are on the fence about putting Godwin in your lineup week one then this is your green light to start him. The Bucs should have no problem lighting up the scoreboard opening night against a very poor Cowboys defense. Expect Godwin and Evans to both have phenomenal games in a big win to open their 2021 Season. Godwin should haul in 5 catches for 81 yards and a Touchdown.

Denver Broncos

The Denver Broncos are going to surprise a lot of people this year and it will not be because of their offense. I believe this Broncos Defense can catapult the team to a 10 win season and possibly make one of the Wild Card spots and appear in the playoffs. They head up to New York to open up against Daniel Jones and the Giants. The Giants have struggled to put together an offensive line and the Denver defensive line should have a field day. Four sacks and two interceptions are on the horizon as the Broncos win big on the road week one.

Miami Dolphins

Miami heads to New England to open the season. Mac Jones will be making his first career start as a professional Quarterback and Miami will pose quite the challenge. Brian Flores was the Defensive Coordinator for the Patriots a few years ago and may know exactly what the Patriots offense wants to do. I expect this matchup to be a defensive game and Jones to struggle in his debut throwing two interceptions.
