Updates on the Buffalo Sabres
Let’s face it, I think everyone knew the Buffalo Sabres were going to be busy in the offseason. Captain Jack Eichel is going to be traded, I am willing to bet my entire life savings that he will not be on the Sabres next season. However, there are two more names that most likely won’t be back next season. Defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen and forward Sam Reinhart are two more names that could be moved. Yesterday, there were some reports regarding all three players. The Buffalo Sabres are looking to make some trades and I’ll get you some updates in this blog.
Rasmus Ristolainen

Let’s start off our Buffalo Sabres updates with Ristolainen. According to Pierre LeBrun of TSN, the Montreal Canadiens and Winnipeg Jets have shown interest in the Sabres defenseman. Ristolainen has been a potential trade piece for the last few years. I personally think he can be a useful piece for a team. He’s physical and has shown some signs of being a top four defenseman in this league. As you can see in the tweet below, general manager Kevyn Adams is setting the bar for his players which I love. If you’re going to trade a player that has potential, make sure you get a useful return.
LeBrun on Insider Trading talking Rasmus Ristolainen: "There's been some pretty solid interest of late, among the several teams that have kicked the tires: Winnipeg Jets and the Montreal Canadiens."

The #Sabres general asking price for Rasmus Ristolainen is a first-round pick and a prospect.

Sam Reinhart

According to @TheFourthPeriod, the Sabres want a young, NHL-ready player as part of a package for Sam Reinhart.
Adams had discussions with teams leading up to Saturday’s trade freeze.
It’s uncertain how close they got, but Reinhart isn’t expected to be a Sabre much longer.

Sam Reinhart is likely on his way out of the door as well. According to David Pagnotta, the price is set for Sam. As you can see in the tweet above, Adams wants to have a young player who’s already in the NHL coming back to the Sabres. Reinhart is a restricted free agent and with the Sabres in a tough situation, it’s better to trade him and get something good for him rather than losing him in free agency next year and not getting anything in return.
Jack Eichel

Now for the name everyone expects to be gone, Jack Eichel. As seen in the tweet below, Adams is setting the bar high for these players and I’m loving it. If you want to acquire our players, you’re going to need to pay a price for it, especially if you want Eichel. Pagnotta said the other night that the price for Eichel will be AT LEAST four assets.
.@TheFourthPeriod says the Sabres’ price for Jack Eichel hasn’t changed:
• 2 NHL players
• 2 top prospects and/or a 1st round pick(s)minimum 4 assets. pic.twitter.com/wbQVEDiJ0b

“Sabres GM Kevyn Adams’ initial ask from the Wild was believed to be all futures, meaning top prospects Marco Rossi and Matt Boldy and multiple first-round picks.”#Sabres https://t.co/5UR78ewHJW

As for where he might go, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet said that the Minnesota Wild and the New York Rangers are the frontrunners for Jack. However, I have a feeling that the Wild will be the ones to land Eichel. Not only would Minnesota be a good fit because they’re in the Western Conference, but they have some attractive names as seen in the tweet above. I’ve said it so many times, send Jack out West and get a good return for him. If the Sabres can get Marco Rossi and Matt Boldy, along with first round picks, then I will be content with losing Eichel.
Dahlin Staying in Buffalo?

Contract negotiations have started between the Sabres and Rasmus Dahlin’s camp, per sources.
Talks are in the preliminary stage. Dahlin is a restricted free agent.

To wrap up this blog on Buffalo Sabres updates, I thought I would end it on a good note. According to Lance Lysowski, Sabres defenseman Rasmus Dahlin and the Sabres have begun talks regarding a contract extension. This comes after defenseman Miro Heiskanen signed a lengthy contract extension with the Dallas Stars a few days ago. This is great news for the Sabres. Losing Eichel will be tough but you cannot afford to lose Dahlin. Talks are still in the early stages but this is fantastic.
