Top Five Rookie Quarterbacks To Draft In Fantasy Football

Fantasy football season is just around the corner. Soon, very soon, football fans will come together for yet another season of fantasy football. The best part about fantasy football other than having bragging rights after winning the league, is draft night. Draft night is the night where you either scream and shout in celebration or in agony if a player someone wanted is drafted before their pick. Just like every other season, there are some impressive rookies to draft. Today, we’re going to look at the quarterbacks. Let’s take a look at the top five rookie quarterbacks to draft in fantasy football!

1. Zach Wilson New York Jets

2021 NFL draft: Zach Wilson says Jets will be 'a special team'

Yes that’s right, Zach Wilson is first. Not that other guy from Jacksonville. Why is Wilson first? He’s got the better skill players and offensive line. The Jets have built a wall of an offensive line which is good. Wilson has protection. As for his receivers, he has Corey Davis, Denzel Mims, Elijah Moore (rookie) and Jamison Crowder. That’s who his four main targets will be. All these receivers have the ability to get open and make a play in the open field after making a reception. Not to mention his main tight end is Chris Herndon who is underrated. Where should Wilson be drafted? Draft Wilson in the middle rounds, but in the earlier middle rounds.

2. Trey Lance San Francisco 49ers

2021 NFL Draft: Transcripts, Quarterback Trey Lance, North Dakota State, Third Overall

This is a high risk high reward pick if you manage to select Trey Lance. Why? For now, it’s unknown who the starter will be week one for the 49ers. However, it is a heavy speculation that it will be Lance over Jimmy G. Lance has weapons around him. For starters, there’s George Kittle who is one of the best tight ends in the NFL. Kittle can block and can go out and make a play for Lance. Not to mention the 49ers are loaded with young playmakers at the skill positions. Deebo Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk, Trey Sermon and Raheem Mostert are just a few of those young playmakers. Now here’s the important part. Where should you draft Lance? Again with the uncertainly of who the starting QB will be in San Francisco, draft Lance in the later rounds.

3. Trevor Lawrence Jacksonville Jaguars

Welcome to DUUUVAL, Trevor Lawrence!

The number one overall pick is third on the list. Despite drafting Lawrence, the Jaguars still lack talent. Yes, they got a trio of running backs that have potential, but when it comes to the receivers (and also offensive line) there’s major concerns. The best receiver is DJ Chark… yikes. Yes there’s Marvin Jones Jr, but, that’s still not great. Proceed with caution when it comes to drafting Lawrence, he doesn’t have much to work with. Take him very late in the draft, maybe even close to the end.

4. Justin Fields Chicago Bears

Bears QB Justin Fields ready to make the teams that passed on him pay

The only reason why Justin Fields is fourth is because of the Bears coaching staff. To explain in more detail, the Bears coaching staff is really out here saying that Andy Dalton is going to be the week one starter. That’s a horrible idea. Fields is the much better choice and he’ll click better with Allen Robinson and Darnell Mooney. The second Andy Dalton pulls an Andy Dalton and becomes useless the Bears receivers will either want to be traded or demand Fields to be the starter. Fields has some serious potential. Again, because of the horrible decision making the Bears coaching staff will make, draft Fields in the later rounds, or immeidately pick him up on waivers if he goes undrafted.

5. Mac Jones New England Patriots

Patriots sign first-round pick quarterback Mac Jones

Mac Jones is a high risk pick for fantasy football. But, out of all the other rookie quarterbacks remaining, he makes the most sense to pick unless Houston Texans quarterback Davis Mills wins the starting job (which he could with their current QB situation). Why is Jones a high risk? There’s a chance he doesn’t start in his rookie season. Just a friendly reminder that Cam Newton is the starting quarterback in New England. But, Josh McDaniels could find ways to incorporate Jones into the offense. The Patriots basically have a brand new team so if the Patriots get creative this year, there could be Jones specific plays. Jones should be drafted in the last round or picked up on waivers if you find it necessary to even have him on your team while Cam Newton gets the starting reps in New England.

Final Thoughts

So those are the top five rookie quarterbacks to draft in fantasy football. It should be no surprise that the first five quarterbacks that were selected are the ones to pick up in your fantasy drafts. All these guys will eventually be starting quarterbacks but for now, take most of these guys in the middle to late rounds!
