With the NFL season a few weeks away, we’re starting to get an idea of how teams are shaping up. Of course, everyone is looking up to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Tom Brady won his seventh Super Bowl and is looking for number eight before he retires. While the big boys of the league (Chiefs, Packers, etc.) are looking to knock off the defending champs, who are some teams that could surprise a lot of people? A team that could come out of the shadows so to speak. Well, here are three NFL teams that will surprise everyone in 2021.
Los Angeles Rams
The Los Angeles Rams enter the 2021 season with a lot of hope. They traded for Matthew Stafford in the off-season to help boost their quarterback play. They also recently added former Patriots running back Sony Michel to bolster up the backfield with the injury of Cam Akers occurring. Plus, they also still have Aaron Donald who is arguably the best defensive player in football. The Rams are in arguably the best division in football with the Cardinals, Seahawks, and 49ers breathing down their necks. Yes, their schedule is a bit tougher than you’d like. Yes, I know the Rams just went 0-3 in the preseason. But something tells me the Rams are going to over perform and have people’s heads turning every week. Keep a close eye on those Rams.
This is an interesting pick considering the Browns made the playoffs this year. But this is a year for the Browns to prove that they are indeed for real and that 2020 wasn’t a fluke. The Browns have a lot of winnable games on the schedule. They can beat Pittsburgh, who looks to be on the decline. I still think they’re way better than Cincinnati. Call me crazy, but I think they can even beat the Ravens this year. Maybe not both games, but at least a split. Then you factor in games against Houston, Chicago, Denvers, LA Chargers, Lions and Raiders? These are games that the Browns should take care of business. The offense is there. Defensively, they’re coming together with Myles Garrett leading the way. Keep a close eye on the Browns in that AFC North division.
Washington Football Team
Washington won the abysmal NFC East last season with a 7-9 record. This year, I think they take another step forward. You have Chase Young that’s blossoming into one of the best young defensive stars in the NFL. Offensively, Ryan Fitzpatrick will lead you in at least the first month of the season. Taylor Heinicke is a dependable backup that played well against the Bucs in the playoffs last season. Plus, don’t forget about Antonio Gibson and Terry McLaurin on offense. Dallas has Dak Prescott back and the Giants get Saquon Barkley back, I get all of that. But with Ron Rivera pushing this team in the right direction, there’s a lot to look forward to as a WFT fan…besides a new name in 2022.
There you have it. Three NFL teams that will surprise you in 2021. Did I miss any? Any teams you want to advocate for during this 2021 season? Let me know and let’s discuss!
