Three free agents the Patriots can still pursue
The New England Patriots have been, well…not very active with free agency thus far. They’ve made a few smaller signings in Terrance Mitchell and Ty Montgomery. But they really haven’t made that splash yet! However, free agency is far from over. So who are three free agents the Patriots should still pursue? Let’s take a look.
Free Agents for the Patriots to Pursue: Bobby Wagner
Matt Judon is wanting Bobby Wagner on the Patriots and so should the rest of Pats nation. Bobby Wagner is a proven winner and still can produce at a high level. Plus, with the uncertainty of Dont’a Hightower’s future in New England, it wouldn’t hurt bringing in a veteran presence to help this Patriots defense. Wagner will have suitors for his services. But the Patriots should be one of those suitors, especially for Bill Belichick who loves to improve his defense.
JuJu Smith-Schuster
This is a PERFECT signing for the Patriots. JuJu Smith-Schuster can give you a legit number one wide receiver without breaking the bank. Smith-Schuster was injured for a majority of the 2021 season. With uncertainties in Pittsburgh, JuJu might want a change in scenery. He can sign a one year prove it deal with the Patriots and then hit on a bigger contract next offseason. Smith-Schuster can create separation and be a dynamic playmaker in this Patriots offense. If I’m Bill Belichick, I’m making that call.
Trent Brown
Of the remaining free agents, the Patriots should be doing everything in their power to bring back Trent Brown. You lost Ted Karras to Cincinnati and traded Shaq Mason to the Buccaneers. You have questions on that offensive line now. Why not bring back a guy that you know can be productive for you? At least if you bring back Trent Brown, you have 4/5 of your offensive line from a season ago and can still add via the draft, free agency, or even a trade. Having Trent Brown on your offensive line will also be huge for the continued development of Mac Jones. I’d say this is just about the most important signing for the Patriots. You NEED Trent Brown back on the offensive line somehow.
In Conclusion
The Patriots can still make moves to help them out. There are a lot of questions now at wide receiver, offensive line, cornerback, and linebacker. You need to address a few of these in free agency. The draft will only get you so far. Will Bill Belichick actually make moves to get his team a step closer to contending? Or will he be content with getting to the first round of the playoffs? Only time will answer that question!
