The Tailgreeter Cure Bowl Preview
Bowl number two of the season also takes place on Friday December 17th, but this is a 6 PM EST start. This bowl is the Tailgreeter Cure Bowl, and this matchup is between Northern Illinois (9-4) and Coastal Carolina (10-2). This matchup contains a MAC team going up against a team from the Sun Belt. With that being said here is my preview for the Tailgreeter Cure Bowl.
Northern Illinois
Rocky Lombardi transferred in from Michigan State and made an immediate impact on this team. Northern Illinois won the MAC title this year after not winning a single game a season ago. The Huskies bowl success hasn’t been the best as they haven’t won a bowl game since 2011. Northern Illinois saw success this year due to their offense. They have won eight out of their last ten and Rocky Lombardi has been a solid quarterback for them. Lombardi has career highs in passing yards and touchdowns this season with the Huskies offense. I expect this offense to be a threat to Coastal Carolina who have struggled as of late.
Coastal Carolina
Coastal Carolina struggled down the stretch this season. In their last six games, Coastal Carolina is 1-5 against the spread. They haven’t covered as a double-digit favorite since the beginning of October. A 10-2 record looks a lot better than it has been for the Chanticleers. Squeaking by and getting wins when you are not focused on the spread is fantastic. Myself being who I am is a little bit worried about this team. Coastal Carolina should easily win this game hands down no questions asked. What does this defense look like is going to be the big question of the day? If the Coastal Carolina defense comes to play, then the Huskies are going to have to be on their A game.
Prediction:
These two offenses will be fun to watch in this matchup. Coastal Carolina is a 10.5-point favorite and the over/under is at 63.5. I think both offenses will score so I will lean the under. My official play though is Northern Illinois +10.5. Too many points being given, and it is hard not to take the points against Coastal Carolina lately.
