The Rafters Pod Ep. 121: Celtics Mavs Finals

The Celtics and Mavs Finals are set to begin. As we commanded and predicted all year long, The Boston Celtics had to win a championship this year. Boston swept the Indiana Pacers to advance to the championship, while Dallas took care of Minnesota in 5 games. These two storied franchises are facing for the first time in a championship game slam-dunked with incredible storylines. The Celtics Mavs Finals promises memorable plays and drama.

A series of Revenge.

Arguably the most hated man in the eyes of recent Celtics history makes his return to the garden. Kyrie Irving, the dynamic dribbling wizard who was traded to Boston in 2017 for the franchises beloved Isaiah Thomas. Irving time with Boston was a roller coaster of injuries, flashy highlights, and false promises. Every matchup since his departure from Bean town has led to incredible scrutiny as the hatred for him in the Boston is palpable. On the other side, Boston acquired former Mavericks Center Kristaps Porzingis this past off-season. Porzingis’ time in Dallas was similar to Kyrie’s story with less distain. A lot of injuries, a weird team fit next to the Mavs superstar, and a chair throwing controversy that landed the Latvian in Washington for a year. Dallas once saw Porzingis as the next Dirk Nowitzki. Now, he returns as the super villain.

Battle of the Backcourt

The Dallas Mavericks are sporting two of the most dynamic scoring guards in the league. On the other side, Boston has the best defensive guards. How will this loaded defensive unit essentially shut down Kyrie Irving and the seemingly unstoppable Luka Doncic? Essentially, Jrue Holiday and Derrick White will have their hands full in this series. Expect a heavy dose of Brown and Tatum switching onto the Dallas stars as well because Luka appears unstoppable.
