The Rafters Pod Ep. 103: New Look Celtics 2022 Season

The Celtics 2022 season is kicking off Tuesday with a brand new look from top to bottom. The reigning Eastern Conference Champions were one of the most active teams in free agency, bringing in headliner names such as Blake Griffin and Malcolm Brogdon. Griffin joins the green team in the twilight of his career after career lows across the board the season before. The former high flier still has Boston fans excited but what will Griffin really offer Boston in 2022? Justin remains the hopeful optimist of the show on that front.

In classic preseason fashion, contract drama has bubbled to the surface. Grant Williams is looking to get an extension before the last year of his deal. Reports surfaced a minimum salary deal was offered by Brad Stevens but was declined. Grant Williams appears to be betting on himself this season as a restricted free agent in hopes of playing great and earning a heavy deal. The undersized forward has had a roller coaster career with the Celtics thus far, showing moments of strong contribution and complete ineptitude.

In late September, rim-running big Robert Williams underwent a cleanup knee procedure that will keep him out eight to twelve weeks. This trend has been nothing new for Williams, who after signing a large contract last off-season missed plenty of regular season and playoff games with knee issues. With him already missing the start of the season the year after a deep playoff run, should fans be concerned for their teams latest investment?

The year long suspension of Ime Udoka has take attention away from the team. How will the new look Celtics play without their prolific coach on the sidelines?
