The Newest Addition to the Buffalo Sabres

Last offseason, the Buffalo Sabres front office went through a rebuild. Yesterday afternoon, the front office made another addition. Jason Karmanos was hired as the assistant general manager and as you can see in the tweet above, he will be the general manager of the Rochester Americans, Buffalo’s AHL affiliate. He will also oversee the scouting department and a couple of other tasks.

According to Sabres.com, Karmanos has been with the Pittsburgh Penguins for the last six seasons, three seasons as the club’s assistant general manager. In his time with the Penguins, Karmanos was a master at revamping the use of analytics to assist with decisions that were made by Pittsburgh’s management. He was also the assistant general manager with the Carolina Hurricanes for 13 seasons. The newest addition to Buffalo’s front office is also a member of three Stanley Cup winners.

Final Thoughts:

I love this move for the Sabres. Kevyn Adams is in his first season as a general manager and he could use all the help he can get. I get it, he’s managing a team who, let’s face it, has been the laughing stock of the NHL for a decade. It wasn’t a good situation for him to come into in the first place, now he needs to turn this franchise around. Karmanos will definitely help out in the process and I’m expecting them to have a very busy offseason.
