The NBA Is Back?
Yesterday NBA Commissioner, Adam Silver, held a conference call with the league’s Board of Directors to discuss the possibility of resuming this NBA season. Frankly, the meeting got as far as you could assume. But a few of the league’s superstars such as LeBron James, Steph Curry, Kevin Durant, and a few more joined in on the call and apparently agreed in favor of returning.
NBA Insider, Shams Charania, then tweeted this after the meeting:

So we need to wait another month and multiple conference calls until the NBA can finally agree on returning? Honestly, I don’t think the league will return this year. If they were going to return to a one place location such as Disney World or Phoenix then they would have already done that. The city of Phoenix already said they can be the center of sports for when they return, but no league has acted on it.
But then what happens if they do decide to return? So let’s say the league returns on June 15. The regular NBA Playoff format goes from end of April/beginning of May to ending The Finals in mid/late June. So this would mean that the NBA would resume the season in June, and most teams have about 20-something games left, and then playoffs would begin in mid-July/early August… Look I’m a giant fan of the NBA about that is just dumb.
It would be an absolute cluster fuck from June to February if the NBA decides to come back this year. There’s also no way it would work logistically either. So the NBA and MLB would be battling it out for Spring/Summer viewership. Let’s say the NBA comes back on short notice for next year then they would be back to battling football until February. That sounds like an absolute mess if you ask me.
I’m pretty sure this is going to land on Silver to make an executive decision because there are just endless possibilities and issues that come with the league resuming play in mid-June. If I’m him then I am going to end this season and start fresh in October. It seems like the only logical decision without upsetting other sports leagues and running into scheduling problems. I would be shocked if they returned this season. Having to wait another possible month just makes things harder for play to resume.
